Just installed a new video card Sapphire HD 3870. I go to run CoD4 and I get the ol iw3mp.exe error. Power supply is fine (550W). Another issue is that I cannot hear sound. ATI AA01 High def sound card. Never have had this problem with my old video card. Suddenly I install the new vid card and am having all these problems? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Uninstall old drivers, run DCP in safe mode, reinstall drivers.

DCP is Driver Cleaner Pro.

Search it on the internetzs.

You can't just install a new video card and have it working right away. You need to uninstall the old drivers BEFORE you install the new ones, assuming you installed new ones at all. If you already did that, just uninstall all the video drivers on the computer, restart, and reinstall the newest ones for that card from scratch. Do the same thing with the sound issue, or make sure COD4 didn't disable the sound for some odd reason. When I changed video cards a few weeks ago COD4 disabled the sound in the games options for some reason.

Uninstalled old drivers

Rebooted

Installed new drivers

Rebooted

Still the same iw3mp.exe error and I still can't hear sound. I can't boot CoD4 multiplayer, I can't hear system sounds.

What do I do ?

Did you run DCP? try reinstalling your audio drivers too, but run DCP after you uninstall them.

EDIT: Actually it sounds like your installation of COD4 is corrupt, try reinstalling that instead.

Reinstall CoD4.  I got that same error the first time I installed it and a reinstall fixed it.

EDIT

WOOT. Got it fixed. Turned out the problem was the soundcard, I slapped in my creative xfi sound card and now the game works fine.

Well that's a kick in the dick, the other sound card is crap now. Did it cost much?
