If I'm buying a new computer, but without a monitor, will the performance be thesame (it's also a flat screen, but a quite old one).

The new computer would be with an 8800GT 512mb card.

Thank you in advance

Normally, CRT monitors are better for gaming.  LCD monitors are more to save space on your desk.  But in all honesty, it really doesn't matter.

Edit: Bad grammar ftl!

If it's a good CRT, it's way better than any LCD on the market with the exception of some sharpness. DU can back that up.

And if it runs at 75Hz+, it's not gonna hurt the eyes. It will, however, have a lot better colours, contrast and response time.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

But ACTUALLY a new monitor isn't needed for playing CoD4 on its highest or something , as long as the card is good?

If you have a good card, chances are you will have to get a DVI converter to....convert the connection to VGA if you intend on using a CRT monitor.  Other than that, it will look just fine.  But then again, a LCD monitor will save you space and all of that.
