Hello all,

I'm probably going to buy a new power supply soon to accommodate some new hardware. However, the one I'm looking at has a solid 8 pin CPU power plug, and my motherboard only has one 4 pin CPU connector. If I did buy this PSU, would this be an issue? Would I need to get an adapter or should I just look into a different PSU? Thanks.

You should look for a new PSU unless that one also have a 4 pin, you need the 4 or 8 pin connector for it to work right. If yours only has a 4 pin, it must be fairly old right?

I have this:

And this:
http://www.corsairmemory.com/products/vx.aspx

And they both have a 8pin mobo connector that can be split into 2x4pin.

Are you sure it's solid?  All of the ones I've seen split and it is actually a 4+4 plug.

I have never seen one like that, the ones I have seen are solid. I guess they do still make mobos with 4 pin connectors.

Here it is.

Unless I'm looking at it wrong, the CPU connector is solid.

Most of the mobos with 8 pin have 4 of them covered. That means you don't actually need 8 pin unless your overclocking. For OCing 8 pin is recommended for stability.

But can I just plug half of the 8 pin into the 4 pin and have it work?

True, I just looked at the mobo. Do they sell adapters for 8 to 4 pin?
