As some of you know. I have at least 9 months armed service in the Finnish Air Force starting July 7th.

All my expensive and fast (atm) hardware would be sitting useless in a corner and become obsolete while I'm in the army. (all those cool Nehalems and GT200s coming...).

So I was wondering if I should sell the high-end hardware I have and get some really cheap low-end stuff that can take me till July?

I just noticed that I'm not so interested playing these new games that are out or I have already finished them. So I have been playing bf2/bf2142 and old games like HL1. (X800XT PE has no problems handling these, lol). And anyway there are enough old games to play for a month or two. And maybe watch tv series and stuff.

hardware I might sell away for decent price:

Club3D HD 3870 X2 300€
Sapphire HD 3870 130€
Q6600 G0 160€
Zalman CNPS 9700NT 35€
Asus P5E X38 150€
total: 775€
- ~100€ for E2140 + cheap mobo
= 675€

with that money + little savings I'm planning to do I could get some kickass hardware after the army.

So what do you huys think. Get a very kickass rig after army?

I want to use them but can't since I'll be in the army and have like a day or two off in couple weeks or so.

btw the HD3870 is the cheap single slot one so it is 140€ as new here.

Well I doubt you will get within 10€ of what you would pay for a new one, why would someone buy a used hardware item when they can get a new one that is guaranteed to work and still under warranty for 10€ more? If you are lucky you might get half of what you paid.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

we'll see about that after army. I'll keep my 750w PSU and case because those are future proof stuff.

Cards and CPU, I say. If DDR3 strikes through whiles you're gone, you might aswell sell the whole package.

So far it looks like I'll sell the gfx cards and CPU.
Should I keep the mobo and get a Q9450 for really cheap after army?
I have 4gb DDR2 and I think Nehalems will be too pricey for a good while combined with 4GB DDR3 and new DDR3 mobo...
