Last summer my net spend on a final upgrade was about £300. this was mainly in anticipation of cod4 & crysis. a few months later the demos came out & I struggled to get 30fps, so i didn’t bother with either.

I’m not too concerned as I’m still hooked on bf2. the only thing bothering me now is the release of gtaiv.

Should I upgrade again this summer? i assume this would mean a heavier investment than last years £300 as i'd be replacing the skt939 mobo this time, possibly only retaining the chassis & psu.

out of curiosity I’ve been looking at a ps3 they are £280, gtaiv has been released for this & I'd still have my pc for the internet.

i'm out of touch with specs & prices for the hardware i would have to invest in, to be able to run gtaiv or the next generation of fps in a few months time.

I'd say go for the console, honestly. You'd get more gaming out of it.

And pick up GTA IV definitely, and join us on the multiplayer meets.

I agree how tempting it is to go for a console with the prices of PC upgrades etc. - especially for those in the community who are not in work; ie myself, you can easily blow a ridiculously large proportion of savings/income each year. Suppose the key is to buy to overclock, futureproof as much as, and upgrade gradually,

it is so temping, but having a console & a pc seems a bit inefficient.

the anticipation of gtaiv is making me question my principals.

Just get a console dude trust me.

I own a high - end PC and a PS3...And I really regret spending shit loads of money on the PC. Because, most games are on both. Oh wait, Crysis...LOLOLOL

Ya, that and metal gear, I think consoles have it sown up this summer, and probably into christmas aswell.  I have no intention to buy any PC game for a while yet (infact there is none I know of coming soon that I want), but there are several consoles games on route.

Thing for me is I love my FPS' - been fortunate enough to play BF2, 2142, COD4 I find most other genres boring now - when a console fully integrated a keyboard/mouse into all FPS games I'd definitely need to reconsider, as the PS3 has done with UT3 atm

i agree. i only play bf2, so it's natural there are occasions when i tire of it, i'll have a look around & nothing inspires me. i've not played crysis but the scifi element & hi spec turned me off. the crysis forum on here seems empty so i assume that hasn't been a great success.
