Sorry if this kind of thread has aleady been made. I thought it would be interesting to find out if the situation has affected anyone here on BF2s yet.

I personally havnt been affected, im still spending and having money to live nicely and the business im working for is still doing extremely well
My parents havnt been affected either and so far i havnt hear any of my family or friends having any financial problems or reporessions.

Has the credit crunch affected you or your family financially yet?

I'm doing better because of it at the moment. US currency is delightfully cheap.

Tuition just went up by $2,000, and the job market is slim.

However, I make a habit of not using credit for anything, so it hasn't affected me that much.

Kind of. The biggest irritation is that I spent a bunch on heating on oil ($2,000+) this season but other than that things in general or more expensive. It has made me slap my own hands when thinking about frivolous things to buy. I've also been motivated to go out and get more income. Honestly this is how someone should be thinking at any time.

Will find out. This is my topic for my SGP.

Increasing food prices are having more of a real effect on me - I'm unemployed and so have very little money.

I've decided to walk away from my condo and take the foreclosure and bad credit penalty for it.  I blame the huge fluctuation of prices across the board for my failed financial planning.  I'd rather dump the "lose/lose" condo rather than starve my family and use my 401k funds.  Simple economics and smart investing.  If banks can't handle it, then they should (and likely will) alter lending practices.

I blame the greedy house flippers for the inflated home values that are returning the home prices to what they're actually worth.  House flippers should die.

Flippers/investors makes up a very small amount of the residential real estate market. You could probably give them some of the blame for tightening the supply. However the reason for the surge in availability now has to do more with builders building on spec coupled with resales coming back onto the market in mass due to foreclosures (such as your soon to be available condo).

I'm blaming the house flippers here in the SF Bay Area for being the major contributor to house pricing.  When the dot com boom was underway, there became a huge demand for housing..mere 10x10 foot bedrooms were renting for up to $1000 a month, and when the greedy new real estate investors saw this, they bought up all the properties counting on their value doubling annually..or better.  They buy fixer uppers, or just normal places, plant some flowers, put up some new paint or carpet, and after a month, resell them for gobs more money.  They then use that capital gain towards more and more properties buying up everything, plummeting supply and making demand skyrocket.  Innocent families like my own spent a good 5 years (2000-2005) migrating apartments east towards cheaper housing trying to find something we could buy...finally, in 2006, we get our crappy condo in the ghetto..just in time to see the bubble sky dive...you know the rest.

This is why I hate real estate investors.  They are to blame (mostly) for making the SF Bay Area the most expensive place to live in in the country...the dot com boom is a close second.  This is common knowledge among my people and it's been aired on the news plenty.

i have noticed a decrease in sales, but nothing to make me shit my cereal.

also, right now im in the process of starting a business in the Airsoft industry, which is actually kind of recession proof.
the majority of the sport is played in europe and asia....i already have people there wanting to be retail outlets, so hopefully if things get real rough, that will help.

im keeping my fingers crossed at least.....not EVERYONE needs a handmade knife...especially when wal-mart sells them for $4.

Recession proof?  Are you kidding?  Toys/Games/Cars/Hobbies are all victims of recession.

Maybe if you had an airsoft store that also included a gas station, a check cashing, and a liquor store in it you'd be solvent! lol

btw Parker,
What is the "best" metal stock to get for an MP5 that can replace the cheap-o plastic stock that comes on the GSG-5 .22lr?

ok, recession proof was the wrong term.....more prone to succeed during a time of financial crisis in the US. as %70 of my business will be directed overseas, i wont be hit as hard as if ALL of my business was done in the US (like the knives)

as for the stock, i absolutely LOVE retractable stocks on sub guns.
if it will fit, i would just contact HK, and see how much they sell them for...or one of their distributors of course.

i bet that little fucker is a hoot to have at the range, man.
id love to see some video of it in action, if you ever get the chance....

see if this works...

Yeah, i wish they'd ship faster, but the ATF will only inspect so many at a time so the import lines are backed up considerably for the GSG-5.  All reviews and pics I've seen have been positive.  It's a very solid, sturdy, reliable, good feeding 22 lr.  And it's a good $300 less than an AR with a dedicated 22lr upper.

Turns out this thing is compatible with airsoft parts as well as the real parts like red dots/acogs/reflex optics.

I understand that. It's probably more so in your area. Nationally the greatest impact hasn't been flippers though. In fact some of them (the guys that were flipping several at a time) were caught up in the burst as well. Ironically it has created one of the greatest move up markets in history (low interest rates, low home prices).. you know.. provided you can sell your current house .

OMG they are still on the air..lol

Yes it effects me. I work for developers who can't sell houses because its so hard to get a mortgage, plus houses are so expensive and on the down turn so no ones buying. Most work has stopped on all the big house developments around here as no ones buying, which means developers effectively halted development. So no big jobs on the horizon. But I am finding people are now extending instead of moving so I am getting work, just not so well paid.

Oh, they're buying, just not full priced homes.  If there's perfectly good, big, beautiful homes being foreclosed on (2.9million so far?), and they are auctioned off or short saled, why would anyone pay market value?

4500' 3 story ranch home, 3 years old, on half an acre, foreclosed, reselling/auctioning at $225k

or

4500' 3 story ranch home, new, on half an acre, selling for $600k

My cellphone crapped out the other day, so I had to put one on HP as I didnt have the cash for a replacement at the time...made it to 30 without ticking something up...

My parents may be affected by falling house prices.  They own two properties freehold, and are in the process of clearing one so they can build a house on it to live in.  They plan to sell their current house to finance construction of the new one, but with house prices set to take a dip they might have to hold off, or get a mortgage again.  In the 60-65 age bracket, thats not something you want to be doing.
