Ohhhhh, I've got an older UltraDurable mobo from Gigabyte. It's been working like a charm for over 2 years now.

That should serve you well.

Yea, this Asus board i've had has been nothing but problems.  One of the case sensors is malfunctioning so I keep getting case open errors that halt the boot process.  I have a corsair PSU coming tomorrow and going to pop them in.  Ill take some geek pictures for you guys.

Didn't buy this one, but I did win it today! LG Optimus 2X (LG P920)

Currently updating it to 2.3 as I write this post. Already got most of my apps and keyboards installed, just need to get wallpapers and sounds moved over from the old phone!

The Google laptop I don't have anymore. Was a right piece of shit... The software update didn't work, though, for some reason. Trying a restart on the phone to see if maybe I can run the update again because at the moment it's throwing me an error saying NO software update is available even though I successfully ran the update once already... I want Gingerbread, dammit!

I most likely will root it and flash it, but I want to wait for the official update from LG. Apparently all their phones from the top end of the Optimus line are supposed to make the jump to 4.0, should that not end up happening, though, I'll go ahead and flash it. I do want to keep the 3D functionality, so if a ROM cannot offer me that, I'll stick with LG's software.

Stop coming up with such awesome arguments!!!

Nah, I'm pretty busy for the next few weeks and I'd like to do it, but I want to take some time that way in case it all goes to shit I can have time to fix it. Once February rolls around, I think after hearing your arguments I'll take the plunge.

its been a surprisingly painless process every time ive done it.  i think ive switched ROMs 3 times now and kernels at least 10-15.  kernels are simple and just require a reboot (and have doubled my battery life, at least).  ROMs require a full wipe which is why the full backup is quite useful.  the first time i did it i was ready to spend 2-3 days making everything back to normal but it took an hour or two at most before it was all back to the way i liked it.

Will keep that in mind. Will be nice to have something to keep me busy (reading into it) in February aside from work.

Got my cooler today.  Pain in the ass to install but works great.  52C at 4Ghz, prime 95.

Its the cooler master v6 gt.  So far so good.  I get 17.3 seconds for super pi at 1mb.  Really good for amd.  The cpu now idles around 30-33c depending on what I was doing before.

Really enjoying it. I'm not a fan of the custom UIs, but LG did a pretty good job with their overlay and didn't screw it up royally like HTC's Sense or Samsung's TouchWiz. I went ahead and put Launcher Pro over the home screens just because I wasn't 100% on the launcher that comes with it, but it's really a question of taste and I think a lot of Android users eventually get a custom launcher, anyway.

Whatever you do, you'll definitely want to make sure you can upgrade to Android 2.3 if it doesn't come with it out of the box. 2.2 is nice, but after I flashed to 2.3 two nights ago I've seen INSTANT improvements in battery life. Before, I was ending my days around 10pm with 15-20%, yesterday I finished with over 30% and I was using it quite a bit more than the past few days since I've had it. In Austria, there was no update to 2.3 for the phone, it was only for phones bought in Germany that got the update via the desktop software utility. I think in the USA it's an OTA update, but I'm not sure. There's a general flashing datafile for the EU that you can download and use an LG R&D software utility to flash the file onto the phone. It doesn't require any rooting whatsoever since you're just using the same software that LG uses to flash your phone automatically or manually (should you send it to them).

The phone itself is lightning fast. Nothing ever lags. That being said, I may have the name in the original post incorrect. I've discovered that the naming convention for the Optimus line isn't the same all over the world, so go by the LG P920. You'll likely find the phone under the name Optimus 3D, actually.

Picked it up this morning. Getting everything up and running and configured the way it used to be on the old drive.
