"When I was little, we found a man. He looked like ... like, butchered. The old woman in the village crossed themselves... and whispered crazy things, strange things. 'El Diablo cazador de hombres.' Only in the hottest years, this happens. And this year, it grows hot. We begin finding our men. We found them sometimes without their skins... and sometimes much, much worse. 'El cazador trofeo de los hombres' means the demon, who makes trophies of men."

I think it would be better to document the culture, preserve it... i hate the fucking bastards who log a large portion of the Amazonas, sell it to farmers who expect it to be really good soil for a long time (it isn't - rain forest soil is shit - it's only good as long as the leaves fall down and fertilize the place), and then log some more.
People have it all wrong. It's not the paper consumption, or the high demand for rain forest wood that keeps making this happen. It's gullible farmers who want land at a cheap price, and bastards who log away and sell it to them.

Anyhow, not sure how I feel about contact with these people. Maybe a slow contact - but without destroying their culture. That, imho, is the most important part.

edit: Also, might want to make sure they're immune to modern diseases, and possibly test their DNA for differences (may have allergies/low resistances to other things)

Let them be if they want.

Too late. They've witnessed the helicopter. They're lives have been severely altered and will no longer function as it has been for the past several years.

I'm serious.

They have no immunity to modern diseases. A cold could wipe out their entire tribe.

If you put up signs, ya might as well write on them " Here is an unfucked with tribe, go fuck with them".

The damage is already done, the best thing that could have happened is never let the media get a hold of this story and forget ya ever saw them.........too late for that now.

What do you call them?
Native Americans or Indigenous Americans.
The only problem is that ANYONE born in Amercia is both "native" and "indigenous."  I am descended from so many Eurpoean natioins and cultrues that is would bore me to list them all.  I do have about 1/32 (American Indian) blood in me.  However, I was born here.  I am a Native American.  I am ingienous to this culture, having been born and raised into it.

Pick a better term.

You pick a better term. Those guys aren't from here

And they are the Indigenous Americans when you talk about the broadly accepted term. Europeans/Asians/Blacks/Whatever else that lives in America aren't Indigenous Americans in the generally accepted term. They're just American.

Aboriginal Americans.
OK...but this is in Brazil...so...Native Brazilian Tribe?  Right? or as some are calling them...an Amazon Basin Tribe...just a thought.
Still have issues with both 'native,' and 'indigenous.'  Maybe not now, but in a generation.  Aborinial simply refers to the earliest known settlers or species to live in an area.  It is actually appropriate.

Or better yet...why don't we bring them some blankets...

I say let them be...
lol...  I know what you're saying, but...  You do realize if we don't go ahead and contact them, someone else probably will, and probably without any intention of keeping them from dying (loggers).

In short, cultures this primitive are so endangered that we might as well risk modernization, because we'll at least have a better chance of helping them adapt than the other kinds of contact they'll face otherwise.

What are the benefits to "modernizing" them?
Most of the benefits are for them.  The surviving ones will be immune to the same diseases we are, and they'll live under much better conditions.  Living in a loincloth in a thatched hut isn't exactly a pleasant experience compared to modern amenities.

Who says that the way we live is better for them? (Do you see where I am going with this?  Remember the link I posted about Flying Spaghetti Monster?)

I can see why you feel the way you do.  However, it is a life that they are accustomed to.  Maybe a more simple way of life IS better.
The link you posted about the FSM is pretty funny and cool.  In principle, I agree with it.  In practice, we all make judgment calls.  It's almost impossible to live in such a way as to never say something is "better" than something else.

So, I just choose to apply my own preferences to these people.  Maybe that's imperialist, but I justify it by showing that the survivors could contribute to our economy by joining us and modernizing.  I'm also saying that living like tribespeople is inferior to modern life for the very fact that they are vulnerable to us.  If things were the other way around, I would say they are superior.

Dominance in medicine and technology may not be everything, but it is more practical to be more advanced in both of these things as compared to not being advanced in either.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that adaptation is the most important facet of existence, because without it, you die.

Those are good points as well.  I'll put it this way...  If we decide to keep from messing with them, we're going to have to immediately stop the encroachment of loggers.  Otherwise, it's not going to be a matter of indoctrination and instead a matter of extinction.

100% agreed...we should be stopping the loggers anyways for several other reason too...
True...  there are definitely environmental concerns here.

All these eggs are in one basket, people. In the act of not integrating them into modern civilization and giving them the best possible preventative medical care now, they've been doomed to eventual extinction. If disease doesn't get them first, they'll inbreed themselves out.
