Not all X48 mobos are DDR3. In fact most are still DDR2 (Rampage Formula).
Oh and regarding DDR3 timings: they do look sucky but they aren't. If their timings would be lower on such a high memory speed the RAM itself will be very unstable.
Well, not all. But the point still stands - X48 is really X38 with a number changed.
True they both are similar and no reason to upgrade from a X38 mobo; the only difference between the two is X46 support DDR3-1600, plus the 1.8v. The DDR2 and DDR3 speed issue is the same when DDR2 came out; initially DDR2 wasn't much faster than standard DDR....give it some time. I am still playing games on my AMD mobo (socket 939)
Yep, give it some time is right. I wouldn't buy now if you really want a DDR3 motherboard.
I hope that socket 939 mobo supports DDR2, because I think that was really the only thing holding my now-old system back. Socket 939 really isn't that bad.

the 790i and the X48 chipsets are overrated because they're simply the 780i and X38 with DDR3 support. Btw, DDR3 is expensive and benchies have shown they aren't that much better than their DDR2 brethren. And their timings suck.
X48/790i - evolutionary, not revolutionary.
ddr3 -----> 790i ftw

listen bro, go xfx 790i mobo on newegg....its ddr3 and very reliable...the evga 790i's aren't doing so well.
Plus, dont go c2e...thats a HUGE waste of money, I MEAN HUGE! go with a qx9650, its quad, hence you will love the OC'n ability and the multiplier is unlocked...
if not, go with the q9650 this Q3 or the start of July, its the same as the qx9650, but with locked multiplier...so if you can save yourself 500 dollars, do it.
xfx 790i mobo - $350
qx9650 - $1030
q9650 - $ 530
XFX and eVGA are both fine.
But I agree with the Extreme part. Extreme CPUs are always a waste of money imo.
