M'kay so I am having a lovely issue with Windows that is severly crippling my gaming. My mouse with, at random intervals unplug and replug itself into Windows (or Windows will just say it has unplugged and replugged itself). As of now Windows has taken to giving me the "irony" message, "Your USB device has malfunction and can not be detected please click the bubble for assistance".
I was thinking that since the device is a mouse off of a pre-built system that it might not have the serial built in that Windows uses to identify and find devices connected to USB, that the problem might stem from there as i unplugged the mouse and plugged it into a different port to get rid of my previous issue (The mouse used to disapear altogether but when I switched it to a different port it stopped that). Yet I would have no idea how to resolve this issue. Can you guys help?

Had the same problem with a diamondback disconnecting/reconnecting periodically. nothing fixed it and in the end I sent it back to ebuyer who found it faulty under warranty, so i got a g5 instead.

Just joking.

Since you said it was an OEM mouse, are you sure its not broken?  That's why I posted a new link. If there are any drivers for the mouse, try re installing them. If it fails in every port you plug it into, the assumption is that there is something wrong with the mouse itself.

Try another mouse.  Don't tell me you can't find another mouse...

If the other mouse works, then your mouse is broken.  If the other mouse doesn't work, then Windows is screwy.  If you do anything before this, you're making the assumption that Windows is the problem when it very well may not be.

Also, is this XP or Vista?

I would try plugging it into another port, my Copperhead had an incompatibility with my old motherboard and would only work on one port.  Doesn't sound like your problem, but you can always try...

.Sup's link says that the wiring at the end where you plug it in might be fuxxored.  Try bending that this way and that, and see if the mouse disconnects and reconnects.  If so, it's the wiring.
