Studying things of the ancient is making me ill. The fossil and geographical records only tell that somethings happened. I do not know why or in what context these somethings happened, but, clearly they did. When I hear of ancient world histories written down I get excited, only to be disappointed when the next sentence to be heard is "but they have been lost with time" or something of the like. I not only immerse myself in the science of our beginnings. I also sift through countless myths, trying to pick out stories that match up to scientific "truths". It is maddening reading things that are potentially truth, but I have no way of knowing, and most likely NEVER will know if they are in fact, truth. I feel as if I have screws, nails, and wood, but no tools to build anything. What path will my studies take me to next? I always feel like quiting studying WHY and simply accepting the IS. An is without a was, but perhaps a will be. Faith in what?

It sounds like a passion that needs to be acted upon and not just read about.

At least in your case.

I feel the same frustration when i read about the astronomy and the universe, and quatum physics. The universe has certain believed attributes that dont really add up... Idk man. And what pisses me off is ill never know the answers to all the questions i can ask. =[

Not knowing why is the solution to your problem.  If it bothers you that the evidence you have is inconclusive... why not work to refine and better the scientific processes?  Find ways to get better data so you can fill those gaps.

But don't you see? These gaps can't be filled, not unless a time machine is invented. What was once truth and history has dissolved into legend and myth. We only have about the past 4000-6000 years recored, but this does not mean that people didn't record events before that, long before that. Would spending my entire life digging through the entire world (and beyond) for some possible ancient texts be worth it?

What the fuck are you talking about, I think I have an idea but you're shit at getting across the point you're trying to make.

I'm also interested in Ancient history, I think there's a little more to these great ancient civilisations than meets the eye, if you get me.

Now we're on to something.

I believe it is entirely possible that massive events such as pole shifts or a super volcano or impacts have wiped out advanced civilizations before.

As mentioned in the book I linked to above ( which makes a great case for why the knowledge of how the pyramids were built  is lost in time, who made them and where the technology came from ) there is little current understanding of where ancient technologies came from or evolved, or what they were even.

We believe that civilizations are about 25000 years old, but that could be because that is as far as we can look back.

Look at it this was; if New York City were covered in a thousand feet of magma would people in ten thousand years even know it had been there?
Or if, suddenly due to sudden pole shift Los Angeles was in the middle of the pacific under five miles of water and a thousand feet of sea silt?

Mankind would be wiped out, lucky to survive at all, and surely be reverted to as primitive an existence as there ever was.

Fossils are only discovered when they are near the surface. They are only created when the carcass of an animal is covered quickly with the proper material and left undisturbed for enough time.

I predict that one day the fossilized remains of a man sitting in a jet car under a mountain will be found.

Maybe because you want to know where we've come from?  Maybe learn lessons for the future?

Some stuff is lost with time, but some is distorted or even destroyed outright.

Oh, how you speak the truth. It has always bothered me that we may never know what existed in terms of civilization during the Pleistocene, on the former coasts. When the last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago the sea levels rose hundreds of feet due to the glaciers melting, potentially swallowing up any people or towns that were on the ancient coasts. Of the coast of Okinawa there are pyramids that date to about 10,000 years ago. Remember, civilizations in Mesopotamia and Egypt did not arise until about 7,000 years after that.

What wonders were lost? I see a great future in marine archeology.

I remember reading some website which had a huge stash of links of news stories about crazy archaeological finds and theories.

I found it:

Note, I don't seem to be able to directly link to the section. But basically, go to the "Research" section/link on the bar at the left of the page. I mean, alot of it probably sounds over the top and stupid, but some of the things are still interesting:

Yes it most definitely would.
Considering that most people spend their whole lives doing things like selling TVs or making sandwiches or filling out paperwork, I'd agree with oug that it absolutely would be worth it.
