I will try my best not to judge the merits of these policies, but I will say I am afraid of what will happen when the Dems get control of congress and the executive.  Here are a few things that I think will happen:

1) Removal of caps on social security tax.

2) Signing of the ban on cluster bombs and land mines.

3) Implementing a carbon tax on industries.

4) This is a probably, but I won't say for sure, but they I think they want to reverse the 1994 deregulation of banking should they get a supermajority (over 60 in senate).

5) Closure of Gitmo, and "fair" trials for terrorists caught on the battlefield

6) Fair air time, which Reagan reversed in the 1980s will be brought back.  In one stroke, this means that radio airtime must be equally shared between conservatives and liberals.  This is in effect government regulating speech.

I can think of things they would like to do, like signing Kyoto, but I don't think they will be able to get that through even with a supermajority.

I will go ahead on record as saying our economy is going to be severely hampered by these policies.  Forget that Obama is black and is charming, he's just another Carter with less military experience.  He probably doesn't even know what a cluster bomb is.

To be fair, I know there are a lot of people who WANT those policies to be implemented.  But, fair warning, they will hamper our economy.  I can sympathize with the closing of Gitmo and fair trials.  And actually, maybe the 1994 banking dereg needs to be revisted.  Still, I shutter to think how they would  rewrite it given free reign.

You mean the democrats would want to reintroduce sensible government (apart from number two which I would find pointless)?

1. Not too sure about that one.
2. Pointless, every military should have all tools at its disposal.
3. Way overdue. Greedy cunts shirking responsibilities.
4. Deregulation: oil hoarding and sub-prime. You can't leave unscrupulous cunts to their own devices.
5. Gitmo makes the US look like despotic and barbaric cunts without providing any commensurate benefit so this would have to be a good thing.
6. We have fair air time here in Europe. It prevents plutocracy to a certain degree. Basically without it the only ones who have their views aired are the mega-rich with their own self-serving agendas.

I'm sure quite a few republicans would push to get 60+

See my thread on regulation of banking and trading activity for my thoughts on this topic.

The points you listed, especially #3, 5, & 6, are scary possibilities but you can't say that the democrats will definitely do those things.  We can only pray.

Some of those things aren't that bad. Only 1, 2 and 6 are stupid.

I will go ahead on record as saying our economy is going to be severely hampered by these policies.
Because your economy is absolutely super at the moment isn't it

It's not like I agree with everything that goes on in the UK.

Also, I don't really pay attention to politics when it comes to the media here. I just listen to the politicians themselves and form my own opinion. Fuck the media when it comes to politics, just report the news and that's it. I don't need them to tell me how to think.

I could care less about some faggot in the media's political opinion.

Don't understand #1, and #4 is stupid (if it's what I think it is (which it probably isn't)) but the rest seem fine to me.

Stratoczyk, you give the Democrats too much credit.  Some of what you posted would be good things.

For the most part, Democrats are the lesser of two evils because they don't do anything.  Republicans do a lot of things, but it's mostly bad unless they have a Democrat president to block their bills.

Yeah right, thats just what Democrats do, clean up messes.............. Democrats are the reason why Replulicans are voted into office so frequently. Everytime people think the Republicans have got to go, they vote in a democrat for one term, remember just how fucked up they are, then vote Republican for 2 terms.

How so? Where do you get this information from?
Clintonomics worked very well, didn't you have a budget surplus?
Right now your economy is pretty much in the toilet.
Compared with the last 8 years of Republicanism I don't see how anyone could do any worse.

See, this is what really bothers me about this upcoming election.  Hardly anyone likes the Iraq war now, even diehard Republicans.  But given a huge majority, I think the Dems will ram through a host of really socialistic policies.  Iraq sucks, but that doesn't mean we should become socialistic.

Think I am crazy?  Read what a Democrat house member recently said:

Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling

. . .

“We (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.”

Heres the story link:  http://virginiavirtucon.wordpress.com/2 … efineries/

I hate the Iraq war too.  I feel America is going to vote the Dems in because we don't like Iraq, and unwittingly get more socialistic policies.

For the record, I am not that much of a conservative - I am sympathetic to universal health care (done correctly).  I want to cut military spending.  What I don't want is more government control over markets.  That is an issue that makes Iraq look like a footnote.
