I will try my best not to judge the merits of these policies, but I will say I am afraid of what will happen when the Dems get control of congress and the executive. Here are a few things that I think will happen:
1) Removal of caps on social security tax.
2) Signing of the ban on cluster bombs and land mines.
3) Implementing a carbon tax on industries.
4) This is a probably, but I won't say for sure, but they I think they want to reverse the 1994 deregulation of banking should they get a supermajority (over 60 in senate).
5) Closure of Gitmo, and "fair" trials for terrorists caught on the battlefield
6) Fair air time, which Reagan reversed in the 1980s will be brought back. In one stroke, this means that radio airtime must be equally shared between conservatives and liberals. This is in effect government regulating speech.
I can think of things they would like to do, like signing Kyoto, but I don't think they will be able to get that through even with a supermajority.
I will go ahead on record as saying our economy is going to be severely hampered by these policies. Forget that Obama is black and is charming, he's just another Carter with less military experience. He probably doesn't even know what a cluster bomb is.
To be fair, I know there are a lot of people who WANT those policies to be implemented. But, fair warning, they will hamper our economy. I can sympathize with the closing of Gitmo and fair trials. And actually, maybe the 1994 banking dereg needs to be revisted. Still, I shutter to think how they would rewrite it given free reign.
