now i have come across this application by INTEL themselves, they have a application in beta that allows you to overclock your CPU from windows, using this application, so no more bios, not sure what mobs it works with but by the looks of it, it seems to be only intel mobos t the moment. I hope the make it available on all mobo's .

here is a video on the application

here is a link to it

your opinions on this shizzle

has anyone tried it???

Me too, I can run SPi records without having to do the ever-so-hard Windows bootup at suicide-clocks.

Or having to use the pain-in-the-ass Setfsb.

lol, i was thinking of getting the same CPU and overclocking it too 3.0-3.2. I read that speed can be achieved with the stock cooler

Wonder what speeds a Q66 could hit with a thermalright ultra 120 extreme.

3.2-3.8 probably, depending on the batch.

I am trying to download the software, but I don't get this:

Download the IntelĀ® Desktop Control Center v4.1.0.168 beta for Intel(r) Desktop Boards DX38BT and DX48BT2:
Does that mean P35 chipsets are not supported?

Was just thinking that myself ... I see X38/X48, even 915 but not p35.

Good tool from the looks of the video.  I would really like a tool to adjust my memory.  Voltages, Freq, and timings.

Meh. I would have hoped it was for every system, or Intel chipsets at least. Seems to be Intel boards only, and no one has one

Depends whether you put a fan on it, no fan, around 3.4-3.6, with a decent fan, 3.9+.

Of course an overclocker will put a fan on it

And the batches vary a lot. PanzerFin for example couldn't get his one over 3.6GHz I think, and it was G0 stepping. And he certainly knows how to OC..

uh oh... the first rule i learned when overclocking cpus was 'never overclock using software'.  i can see a bunch of noobs buy high end processors, and ruin them right out of the box using this utility.  oh look! 5ghz! on stock cooler!

If it's software that actually lets you do something, there's no reason not to use it. However, most software just lets you set like "Private - 1%, Colonel - 5%, General - 8%" and more gay-ass stuff.

EDIT: Woo, this works on two motherboards, holy crap! I was hoping to use this on my lappy... Apparently not.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

meh, I'll stick to bios.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

They've had Windows based OC'ing for a long time now, what's so special about this?

And BIOS is still better.
