No, incorrect.  It will not support any Core 2, I googled the mobo and found out that it uses the i945G chipset.  You will be able to use dual core but it will only work with a Pentium D, not a Core 2.  Core 2s are simply incompatible with that chipset.

Obviously a new rig would be great unless you already have PCI-e and DDR2 support and since I have both of those on an older version of the same chipset (i915G), I'm sure you do too.

You could get a new motherboard and CPU if you wanted to but it might be cheaper just to get a Pentium D instead.  Too bad you can't buy from this place:

Btw, what you're using right now isn't actual dual core, it's hyper-threaded, which is like virtual dual core.

P35 can most definitely take Prescott.

_j5689_, you are way off. This is some of the poorest advice I've seen in tech in quite a while. I'm sorry to say.

First off, the i945 does all the 65nm duals. It doesn't do the 45nm duals, or any quads.

Secondly, the Bearlakes can very well take Prescotts. How do I know this? Because I hit 4.51GHz on a motherfucking Prescott on my very own P35 chipset.

Third, when posting sources, I'd look for ones that actually are from after the release of mentioned hardware. That article you linked is over a year old, from a month before the release of mentioned chipsets, consisting of nothing but rumours and pre-release data.

Sam can mount any standard 1066FSB 65nm dual he wants, if he'd so like an X6800.

Now take your ES Bearlakes without NetBurst support, and outdated sources, and kindly shove them up your arse.

update,

so i got the e4700, took my old cpu out and fitted this with no trouble

only the cooler/fan wouldn't fit, so i just thought id stick with my old one and it would be fine. right!?!


so, when i start my pc the light goes yellow instead of green, which according to dell is because it is because: "The computer is receiving power and providing power to all the hardware inside. However, data is not being transferred properly."

monitor light is on but no signal being received, also mouse/keyboard aren't lighting up

any help?
