Do you want to address my point about Carter?
I did, he didn't win a Nobel Prize for Economy, he won the Peace Nobel Prize.

Carter wrote:

Let our position be absolutely clear: An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests (aka Oil) of the United States of America, and such an assault will be repelled by any means necessary, including military force.
Blood for oil much? Sure. Here is your peace prize Mr.Carter.

Ok, your point?  How did we shift to Carter from Stiglitz?

Define we.
Shouldn't it be implied that I meant the United States? Weren't you attacking GWB?

I just pointed out the guy started a war that increased the price of oil 6 times.  Am I wrong?  Maybe.  Is Joseph Stiglitz wrong?  Don't think so.

You used Nobel as credibility for an individual. I was explaining my loss of faith in the Nobel prize.

I used an internationally recognized neutral organization.

You are entitled to think whatever you want. I simply gave reasoning for why his argument didn't make sense. To which your reply was "Nobel".

Now you compare the merits needed to win a Nobel Prize for Economy to the ones required to win the Peace Nobel prize?  Take a look at the people who won one and the other and you'll see they are different things.  Besides, Joseph Stiglitz isn't an idiot, even if he hadn't won a Nobel Prize.

The Nobel Prize seems to be awarded for global awareness and specific breakthroughs, not for character or career.

We all know who Joseph Stiglitz is, but you are entitled to think he is an idiot, because a piece of unsigned paper says other thing than him.

Setting the stage for three decades of middle east intervention was indeed a significant breakthrough.

He won in it 2002 for promoting human rights.  That would be filed under "global awareness" I think.

Nice, so we erase his past and give him an award while we were currently engaged in a conflict that has been produced it's own human rights problems. Short term memory ftl.

C'mon, the award's namesake was an explosives manufacturer.  I'm not saying they pick the best candidates, but they are fairly consistent with their choices.

I know, but human rights? Carter supported and helped some of worlds most brutal leaders (Taliban, Tito, Ceausescu, Ortega, and Kim il-sung).

Has Mr Stiglitz explained how a war that has not affected production one iota has somehow increased the cost of oil sixfold--that is, instead of increased global demand (to include the two countries that have 1/3 of the world's population)?

That article seemed more about using some hyperbole to get out out some views about the war than being factual about the economy. "3 trillion"..

Even most armchair pundits (like myself) know that the price of oil didn't explode because of the Iraq war alone.

Taliban started around 1990, didn't rule the country until later, so I don't call it "helping them"

I guess it's all the same thing though right ? Muj in the 80's = Taliban in the 90's.

Whatever

Not at all. We armed what would be the Taliban (The very same militants). Carter was responsible for the official intervention policy in middle eastern affairs.  The irony is the same people who complain about the US meddling don't see that. Of course lefties also hail Clinton and he made it official policy to remove Saddam.

Tito, Ceausescu, Ortega, and Kim il-sung were more "direct" connections.

Solution: Hate them all
