I guess if someone wins on steroids its too late they won. You can't complain about people cheating anymore I guess. I guess if people cheat on exams it doesn't matter unless they are caught before hand.

You realize that is a load of crap?  Then why was the mens champion 28?  As said before, the only conceivable advantage of being younger is that you are less affected by stressful moments.  You are weaker, less experienced, and more naive than your competition, but hey, I guess that's a huge advantage.

And not to mention, IF being younger made you a better gymnast (which it doesn't), that would be called an advantage.  Micheal Phelps has the legs of a 6' man, and the upper body of a 6'8'' man, he has an inherent advantage over anyone with a normal body.  So he shouldn't be allowed either?

I say drop the age limit, let everyone and anyone compete.  It's stupid to not allow someone better to perform, because of a factor they don't control.  Undermines the entire olympics more, IMO, than changing papers to make younger people seem older.

As I have said, I can obviously see that they broke the rule of age limit.  I am merely saying that:

A)  Age limit for younger people is one of the most retarded rules, and therefore by following that rule, you are also at least partially retarded.

B)  Making a rule that keeps the best PURE athletes out undermines the whole point of the Olympics, and therefore should not be followed by anyone who has a respect for the games.

C)  Differing from what DeathBecomesYu says, I never heard a PEEP about the Chinese girls until the team competition.  Now some people may have been questioning things early, but it's fact that it's a much bigger deal now, than it was before the games started.  Sour grapes are definitely in the Kool Aid.

Last time I checked that's cheating. If you remember right breaking the rules is a bad thing that gets medals stripped and people banned from future games.

It doesn't matter if you think that they should let 14yr olds compete, its against the rules at this time.

And I have been saying all along, if someone cheats TO A DISADVANTAGE, how is that really cheating?  You're 25, in a boxing match, your opponent CHEATS by letting his 9 yr old brother box you instead of him, and he whoops your ass.  Now is that really cheating?  Maybe I guess. But can you, the loser, truly complain?

If they end up labeled as cheaters, I'll never hold it against those little girls who blew the competition away that night.  They were superior, and they deserve the gold.  If anyone needs to be checked in this whole expose, it's the International Gymnastics Federation who cleared these girls to play, not the athletes.  If a group of kids cheat on a test, and the teacher watches them cheat, and then grades them against the other kids like they took the test fairly, who really cheated?

You missed the point. I'm not arguing for an age limit. I'm saying that if you want it open to everyone then make that the rule. Don't exclude huge sections of the population because you were "retarded enough to follow the rules". How many times have we heard that the US has dominated the Olympic medal count because of their large population (pool to draw from)?

Also, the other teams are not claiming that the Chinese girls cheated. They are simply stating that rules are rules and that they should have been enforced or they need to reevaluate the rules and open it up. There are NO PROTESTS, THERE IS NO ONE CALLING FOR DISQUALIFICATION AND THERE IS NO ONE ASKING FOR THE RESULTS TO CHANGE. They are simply pointing out the rules and are asking them to be followed. Bella Karoli was saying the same things. He praises the Chinese girls for their accomplishments and takes nothing from them but he acknowledges there is a problem and the IOC agrees with this. There is a problem whether you like it or not.

I don't agree with you at all, sorry but you are missing the whole point of what the teams are upset about.....No one said anything about the men's side as well, even though now there is word that one of their men is below 16...I didn't hear any American talking about that. Also, for a bunch of sour grapes, I still saw very classy sportsmanship between the girls on the teams. The media is running with it and again, no one is hollering for anyone to lose anything. Fact is, they want this not to happen again and everyone is agreeing on this and saying there was barely a peep is bullshit. As I said before, the questions came out in practice. This is why I like you Kmarion, you always answer sincerely and with well thought out rebuttals.  I just don't think any other country actually sat a better gymnast out, to comply with the age.  I think if any other country had those girls, they would have done the same thing. 

Now if there's a little girl who can actually hang with the Chinese girls, that sat at home, then of course I can see where there's an advantage, and would willingly concede that.  I just refuse to believe that any country would not bring their best athletes possible.

First of all, I only talked about the men's side, to prove that being younger is not an advantage.  I guess that was hard for you to follow.
I never said the sour grapes came from the gymnasts themselves.  So I don't know what tangent you are going on there.  The sour grapes came from all of us, who sat on our ass and watched the games, assuming the US would dominate China's little girls and then didn't.

If you are implying that the outcry was as loud before they won as it is after, then you sir are just wrong.  You and I both know that it was barely even on the radar until they won.  There's nothing to hide behind on this.  There may have been some questioning going on beforehand, but it doesn't come close to the outcry that followed their win.

The IOC checked their passports because that is what they do to EVERY participant.

Exactly, the only arguing left to do is where to go from here. 

I think the IOC and the IGF should get their asses handed to them for letting this happen.

We will never know who had better gymnists because everyone BUT China FOLLOWED THE RULES and didn't compete will underage gymnasts.

there should be a different forum for hand picked people from this forum so we can have debates with only people who are of a certain level of intellect.
