I've watched almost every second of the games, just like you.  I never heard anyone say ANYTHING until the women's team competition.  Then Bela Karolyi started to quietly complain during the analyst segments.  And China had just so happened to start looking like they were going to win.

And once again, to stop the argument right here right now, IF YOU GOT BEAT BY KIDS YOU DESERVE IT.  The China kids were better than the American women.  Game over, we lost, they won.

gg
You realise the younger you are the easier it is to perform Gymnastic feats?

I guess if someone wins on steroids its too late they won. You can't complain about people cheating anymore I guess. I guess if people cheat on exams it doesn't matter unless they are caught before hand.

You realize that is a load of crap?  Then why was the mens champion 28?  As said before, the only conceivable advantage of being younger is that you are less affected by stressful moments.  You are weaker, less experienced, and more naive than your competition, but hey, I guess that's a huge advantage.

And not to mention, IF being younger made you a better gymnast (which it doesn't), that would be called an advantage.  Micheal Phelps has the legs of a 6' man, and the upper body of a 6'8'' man, he has an inherent advantage over anyone with a normal body.  So he shouldn't be allowed either?

I say drop the age limit, let everyone and anyone compete.  It's stupid to not allow someone better to perform, because of a factor they don't control.  Undermines the entire olympics more, IMO, than changing papers to make younger people seem older.

As I have said, I can obviously see that they broke the rule of age limit.  I am merely saying that:

A)  Age limit for younger people is one of the most retarded rules, and therefore by following that rule, you are also at least partially retarded.

B)  Making a rule that keeps the best PURE athletes out undermines the whole point of the Olympics, and therefore should not be followed by anyone who has a respect for the games.

C)  Differing from what DeathBecomesYu says, I never heard a PEEP about the Chinese girls until the team competition.  Now some people may have been questioning things early, but it's fact that it's a much bigger deal now, than it was before the games started.  Sour grapes are definitely in the Kool Aid.

They broke the rules, to further their cause.

Last time I checked that's cheating. If you remember right breaking the rules is a bad thing that gets medals stripped and people banned from future games.

It doesn't matter if you think that they should let 14yr olds compete, its against the rules at this time.

In Womens gymnastics a smaller frame is a distinct advantage with some exercises.

https://i33.tinypic.com/o8bh1u.jpg
The women on the United States team, generally more muscular and shapely than the Chinese, are an average of 3 ½ inches taller and 30 pounds heavier.

The event in which the Chinese blew the U.S. team away? The uneven bars — perfectly suited, per NPR’s reporter, for smaller, lighter girls.
So egregious is this fraud, in fact, that even NBC’s not shying away from it.

Age limit for younger people is one of the most retarded rules, and therefore by following that rule, you are also at least partially retarded.
That may be. But when one side follows the rules and the other doesn't then there is an advantage due to the exclusion of the non legal competitors.

Who cares, who cares, who cares?  If they are better suited, which the former US women's coach, and 2 american analysts won't persuade me on, then they are better suited.  Once again, by not letting them compete, you undermine the Olympics FAR more than by changing books to make a competitor appear older.

Not to mention, the Olympics themselves have directly refuted that being younger is an advantage.  Nasti beat Shawn, Yang Lilin, and about 6 other girls who were smaller and younger than her.  The men's champ was 28.  So even if one event, (Uneven Bars), is an advantage, the bigger stonger girls have the advantage on every other platform and therefore should not lose if they were better athletes.

Edit  Not to mention "The international gymnastics federation, however, said those gymnasts were eligible and that the ages on their passports were correct."

And I have been saying all along, if someone cheats TO A DISADVANTAGE, how is that really cheating?  You're 25, in a boxing match, your opponent CHEATS by letting his 9 yr old brother box you instead of him, and he whoops your ass.  Now is that really cheating?  Maybe I guess. But can you, the loser, truly complain?

If they end up labeled as cheaters, I'll never hold it against those little girls who blew the competition away that night.  They were superior, and they deserve the gold.  If anyone needs to be checked in this whole expose, it's the International Gymnastics Federation who cleared these girls to play, not the athletes.  If a group of kids cheat on a test, and the teacher watches them cheat, and then grades them against the other kids like they took the test fairly, who really cheated?

You missed the point. I'm not arguing for an age limit. I'm saying that if you want it open to everyone then make that the rule. Don't exclude huge sections of the population because you were "retarded enough to follow the rules". How many times have we heard that the US has dominated the Olympic medal count because of their large population (pool to draw from)?

Well population to country as a whole maybe, but if you talking about population of people who are under 15, then you are talking about a minority, not a huge section of the population.

And also, by that rhetoric, China would get 1st, India 2nd, US 3rd, Indonesia 4th, Brazil 5th.  Can't wait for the final medal count to see how that pans out.

Kmarion come on here.  I have eyes and can see they were young.  I am not confused about their age. I used the line about the gymnastics federation to show where the blame really lies.  They cleared these girls to compete.  If it is so obvious and easy to prove they are that young, and we want to follow the rules, then THEY are to blame.

You do know there is a reason they raised the age to 16 not all that long ago, there are valid reasons for this so look it up. Also, There are 3 to 4 channels of olympics on all day where I am at and yes, I heard this controversy before the events events started happening and Bella Karoli was speaking about it well before the team finals. Finally, it is not even about who won or loss. Apparently, you are not watching the olympics very closely or you would know that the Americans were gold and silver in the women's all around. So why would there be sour grapes? The bottom line is that there are rules in place and they are in place for good reasons...it doesn't give anyone the right to skirt the rules "just because". You bringing up ridiculous comparisons is a joke because it doesnt even fit the context of what is going on.

Also, the other teams are not claiming that the Chinese girls cheated. They are simply stating that rules are rules and that they should have been enforced or they need to reevaluate the rules and open it up. There are NO PROTESTS, THERE IS NO ONE CALLING FOR DISQUALIFICATION AND THERE IS NO ONE ASKING FOR THE RESULTS TO CHANGE. They are simply pointing out the rules and are asking them to be followed. Bella Karoli was saying the same things. He praises the Chinese girls for their accomplishments and takes nothing from them but he acknowledges there is a problem and the IOC agrees with this. There is a problem whether you like it or not.

There would be sour grapes because of the TEAM competition, as opposed to the ALL AROUND competition, which btw, directly refuted that age is an advantage.

You barely heard a peep about the controversy, and then they won, and then all you heard was the controversy.  That's fact.

This is why I like you Kmarion, you always answer sincerely and with well thought out rebuttals.  I just don't think any other country actually sat a better gymnast out, to comply with the age.  I think if any other country had those girls, they would have done the same thing.

Now if there's a little girl who can actually hang with the Chinese girls, that sat at home, then of course I can see where there's an advantage, and would willingly concede that.  I just refuse to believe that any country would not bring their best athletes possible.

Are you kidding me?  Do you read posts?  Do you live under a bridge and scare kids when they cross?

First of all, I only talked about the men's side, to prove that being younger is not an advantage.  I guess that was hard for you to follow.
I never said the sour grapes came from the gymnasts themselves.  So I don't know what tangent you are going on there.  The sour grapes came from all of us, who sat on our ass and watched the games, assuming the US would dominate China's little girls and then didn't.

If you are implying that the outcry was as loud before they won as it is after, then you sir are just wrong.  You and I both know that it was barely even on the radar until they won.  There's nothing to hide behind on this.  There may have been some questioning going on beforehand, but it doesn't come close to the outcry that followed their win.

The IOC checked their passports because that is what they do to EVERY participant.

And yes the case is closed.  China had the better gymnasts that night.

THEY CHANGED THE BOOKS TO MAKE THEM OLD ENOUGH TO COMPETE! THAT IS CHEATING, WHEN RULES ARE SET OUT THEY HAVE TO BE FOLLOWED! IF THEY ARE BENT OR BROKEN TO HELP YOU THAT IS CHEATING!!!!
simple as that.  i have no idea what people are arguing about.  even if you cheat and its to your disadvantage as some claim, it is STILL CHEATING!!!!!!!!  look that word up some of you.  my god.  case closed.
I have never said it wasn't cheating, I merely said if someone cheats to their disadvantage, and you lose to them, you have nothing to cry about.

And yes the case is closed.  China had the better gymnasts that night.
They had better gymnasts that night that were not of legal age to compete. So, they cheated for the gold.

Exactly, the only arguing left to do is where to go from here.

I think the IOC and the IGF should get their asses handed to them for letting this happen.

We will never know who had better gymnists because everyone BUT China FOLLOWED THE RULES and didn't compete will underage gymnasts.

there should be a different forum for hand picked people from this forum so we can have debates with only people who are of a certain level of intellect.
