Isn't this impossible because you're trying to see the hitbox from the server's (or even the enemy's) point of view?

I always thought that with BF2's netcode it means that the client side hitbox is always on the target, while the server/enemy is actually lagging behind due to ping compensation. Wasn't this the way you get dustshots?

If this is true then if both players have a ping of 8 there shouldn't be any lagging...right? x_X

The answer is that it depends.

Some games use an additional, staggered, period to make the game world appear to be more smooth.  It effectively increases your latency by x milliseconds, but means you can drop y packets without it impacting on the perceived smoothness of the game.

BF2 hitboxes seem to trail by a decent amount which isn't intuitive, but it's better than the hitboxes being ahead of the target (in which case you need a time machine to succeed).  The confusing thing is when the chopper is moving in two planes of motion and rotating simultaneously.  Only the very best TV guys make those shots consistently, and even then it also depends on your ping to the server and probably some other factors, too.

I'm sure we've all had those impossible to miss shots that just... miss.  I gave up trying to understand ages ago and just consigned myself to the knowledge that I suck with the TV against choppers nowadays.

anyway how could you implement those textures into bf2?

You think battlefield hitboxes lag? Try playing CSS....it's way worse. Lags by about 4-6 feet....

Lies. I play CSS too, and BF2's hitboxes are worse by far. Never had any trouble in CSS hitting people that are standing still, while in BF2 you can unload on them and not get kills occasionally. And I get waaaaayyy better registry on moving people in CSS than I ever have had in BF2

They're the ones that bother me the most I can live with side on shots going through when I (automatically!!) aim for the cockpit, but head on, with the other chopper stationary and having the missle go straight through the cockpit is just so frustrating!!

I'm sure I see the pilots face at times lol.

The hitboxes in CS:S are relatively good IMO.  The ping and interpolation buffer are both accounted for AND bullets are hitscan (instant hit).  From what I remember, a lot of the videos you see showing the "server's" hitboxes do not take into account the interpolation buffer (i.e. the videos are misleading).

There was one specific CS:S patch which TOTALLY fucked the hitboxes, but they put it back to normal fairly sharpish.

LOL yea totally. BF2 doesn't compare to DoD/CS when it comes to hit boxes. When people complain about hitboxes in DoD/CS they're talking about the hitboxes being off by like 3 inches, in BF2 it's a whole helicopter length.

As for the original post, it's not possible. The delayed hitboxes are caused by lag, so there's really no way to produce it in single player because there is no lag. The closest your going to get is what Hakei did, which I think is pretty cool, it actually explains why the F35 hitboxes blow so badly, the 2 tails are taken as one huge hitbox. LAWL @ DICE. I cant wait for more.
