i didnt say that.  but for election stuff, your opinions are, well usueless since you have no control over it.
That may be the case for US citizens also, remember Al Gore having the most votes in the last election and still he didn't get elected President ... that's how much your votes are worth.

I might have less control that you in the US electorial process but still i am free to voice my opinion about it no matter what ideas you have about the opposite, i have the right to try and change peoples mind about who to vote for and i explain why i think they should do so ...

And like mentioned this is a gaming forum but still ... you cant just sweap a discussion under the rug and call it pointless just because it might not have any effect ... one debates the issue at hand as best as one can and leave to others to make up their own mind, doesn't really matter if said discussion is on a gming forum or a hard core debate forum ...

not really.  i agree what we talk about is useless, except for elections.  that is something we americans can have control over so to speak.
Of course, I'm not debating the democracy and the processes involved in the election...

I'm just saying, on this Forum in particular, are any people being converted or persuaded to vote any differently than they would normally? People seem to come to this Forum with their own party-allegiances and partisanship and generally stick to their guns on all of the different issues and debates that spring up. No matter how convincing an argument is, you can bet your guns that a solid group of posters here won't have their minds changed. That's what I'm talking about when you say us European's should butt-out because we can't "change" anything. No D&ST forum really changes any minds or actions in the real-world environment. Iowing will still always be a die-hard Liberal and FEOS will never let off in his unyielding support for the American Communist Party.

Awaits imminent debate on proportional voting methods

You have marginally more influence over it than Varegg has with your one vote out of 207m eligible voters...

No it wouldn't, not at all.

On an American political Forum, as opposed to an international gaming community

You're always telling me to go join some scholarly intellectual debate Forum... why don't you apply some of your own logic?

Similar but not quite ... it cant be compared like that but i know what you mean Jens ...

Explanation: The weakness of Norways electorial process is that the political party that gets the most votes doesn't automatically get the primeminister unless they have 50% of the votes or more, the constallation of parties with the most votes does ... like in most countries with more than two options to vote for.

.

I mean your own logic and common sense in going to a specialised Forum that talks about the issues you want to discuss with the members that you want to discuss with. It's not very common-sensical to expect a US-exclusive thread on American politics on a worldwide gaming Forum that isn't overly concerned with politics.

I would have thought that if you could tell me to GTFO and go elsewhere to seek a proper debate, you could find a more 'fitting' Forum yourself in search of a proper political-election Forum.

Popycock. Superfly Cox perm banned my brother in law and me a year ago because he thought I was using dual accounts. In actuality I asked Orangehound in a PM if it was ok for him to have an account from the same IP and email and he said no problem. My brother in law was staying at my house for awhile when I was in rehab and I wasn't even here, or near a computer for that matter. Superfly didn't even ask or investigate. He just sent a nasty little PM and the ban hammer, which was uncalled for.

nope, that's not what I mean.

Actually Varegg has infinitely less influence if he can't or doesn't vote.

Come on fellas I'm an English student and even I don't prattle on over semantics...

Everyone knows that voting is a small act in a huge arena. What are the alternatives? A Vanguard party? No thanks. I'll stick with the idea of power in great numbers and great organisation.

Very witty...

Oh wait, it's not 1701, it's 2008.

Don't infer that because I don't agree with the narrow center-right / center-left spectrum of American politics that I don't support popular democracy. I may be critical of Democrats and Republicans but that doesn't make me a monarchist or an absolutist.
