Hello thar

I'm making a french poem, but I need help on this part

(In english) He loved her, but " insanity struck "

I currently have this translated as :

" mais la démence bâtissait"(imp) Is that the right verb? I was wondering if it could be "Frapper", maybe. Or something totally different.

Any advice?

Its been a couple years since I took french so you might want to wait for the quebecois to come on. But I believe that batir isnt quite the right verb, frapper i think is better

Yeah, I get it. Hmm, well maybe try PMing one of the guys from quebec or trying a french forum, I did that once when i needed something translated to gaelic and they did it really quickly

Bâtissait means to have built (construction wise).

You could say "mais la folie augmentait" (but the insanity increased).

Post more lines to the poem and the frenchies might be able to come up with a better word.

Some expessions in English just don't work in French. "Insanity struck" sounds like one of them.

And "Ils étaient ensemble" makes it sound like 2 guys . It's correct but maybe "Les deux ensemble" would sound better.
