Going into this review, we really wanted to love this phone. On paper it sounds like the perfect antidote to our gripes about the iPhone, and in some ways it lives up to those promises -- but more often than not while using the Storm, we felt let down or frustrated. Ultimately, this could be a great platform with a little more time in the oven, but right now, it feels undercooked -- and that's not enough for us.

That's not to say it's bad - it's certainly not...it just doesn't beat the iPhone.

Hell, I'd probably get it if I didn't have the iPhone considering I used to be with Verizon.

I haven't been reading anything. I've been using them both.

Guess what - the Storm is actually good as a phone! The iPhone is shockingly bad for making and receiving calls.

Being able to actually use the Bluetooth it comes with is handy too.

Much, much better phone.

I've been able to use both (friend got one yesterday...we have a Verizon store right near us) and I still prefer the iPhone by a bit. Neither "shits over the other" as you put it.

Yes it does. It's a better phone. The PDA functionality of it is miles better. It's got a better camera - with video recording no less (how they left that off the iPhone I have no idea). On top of that, it hasn't had its functionality crippled by Apple.

And yet from what I've seen, the iPhone still functions better as a multimedia player.

Having a better camera does not make the Storm better than the iPhone...whatsoever. The LG Dare has a better camera too, and I don't see anybody calling it the iPhone killer. The Camera on the iPhone does the job I need it to and does it well.





It's a good ALTERNATIVE for people (the Storm, that is) to the iPhone if they don't wanna switch services, but it's still not exactly an iPhone killer. Comes the closest, though.

I think the only thing about the iPhone that's pissed me off is the app crashes, but those are not Apple's fault.

Well, that's what I bought it for mainly... I had a 2 gig (1.78 gigs actually) Nano when I have almost 9 gigs of music and 3 gigs of movies...I needed something that could both hold my music and play videos.

It does it pretty damn good so far. I've watched two movies on it and I use it as an iPod on my way to class every day. I don't make too many calls, so that feature's actually not even as important to me. Even with that as an argument though, I get 5 bars of 3G at my father's house (who lives in a heavily wooded area) with the iPhone, as opposed to the 1 bar or no signal I'd get with my previous phone on Verizon. I've had very little connectivity issues whatsoever.

I don't get that either, and it's a minor inconvenience but not that big of a deal to me. I think someone's working on an App for the App Store that allows video recording, actually. Not sure though, I think I read it somewhere.

And it still CAN be much more thanks to the software updates and apps...hell, I'm upgrading to 2.2 as we speak. I can't even begin to guess what 3.0 will bring.

The fact that the 2.2 update was brought forward to coincide with the release of the Storm is very telling.

Again - nitpicking. Severely.

Apple shined (and still does) in the portable music player category, naturally that's where they're going to have their best part.

I personally see the actual phone part of it as being a feature because I use the iPod feature more.

I can honestly say I hate toucscreens and can't seriously consider anything that makes a touchscreen better than regular buttons besides getting a bigger screen. In my opinion touchscreens are just impractical.

Sorry, bad wording. I just class PDA and iPhone into different categories - I consider the iPhone as more of ... a mini computer almost.

Imo PDA is closer to computer- faster processor, RAM and OS.

The iPhone simply is a PDA. An Apple-branded PDA with a touchscreen and a phone feature.

Not denying it but said ordinary PDA is closer to PCs. Every hardware is better in PDAs.
