President Thomas Jefferson in a letter to Governor William Henry Harrison wrote:

Our system is to live in perpetual peace with the Indians, to cultivate an affectionate attachement for them by everything just and liberal which we can do for them within our bounds of reason and by giving them effectual protection against the wrongs of our own people. When they withdraw themselves to the culture of a small piece of land, they will perceive how useless to them are the extensive forests and will be willing to pare them off in exchange for necessaries for their farms and families. To promote this, we shall push our trading houses, and be glad to see the good and influential individuals among them in debt, because we observe when these debts go beyond what the individual can pay, they become willing to lop them off by a cession of lands. But should any tribe refuse the proffered hand and take up the hatchet, it will be driven across the Mississippi and the whole of its lands confiscated.

Chiksika, a Shawnee warrior wrote:

When a white man kills an Indian in a fair fight it is called honorable, but when an Indian kills a white man in a fair fight it is called murder. When a white army battles Indians and wins it is called a great victory, but if they lose it is called a massacre and bigger armies are raised. If the Indian flees before the advance of such armies, when he tries to return he finds that white men are living where he lived. If he tries to fight off such armies, he is killed and the land taken anyway. When an Indian is killed it is a great loss which leaves a gap in our people and a sorrow in our heart; when a white is killed, three or four others step up to take his place and there is no end to it. The white man seeks to conquer nature, to bend it to his will and to use it wastefully until it is all gone and then he simply moves on, leaving the waste behind him and looking for new places to take. The whole white race is a monster who is always hungry and what he eats is land.

True.

Parker. What did you expect early Americans to do? It is most unfortunate what has become of the aboriginals. That is why we have this day to remember the helping hand that they lent to us. How can one honor them? Some may ask this question. Commune with nature, appreciate it, know that you are not greater than it, you are simply part of it. Enjoy the plentiful yield of the harvest everyone.

do you know what they called the first president of this country?

town destroyer.
the policies we held regarding the indians were never, and i mean NEVER to their benefit.

take the Fort Stanwix Treaty for example;
we bought a HUGE swath of land from a collective tribe known as The Iroquois League. we bought it knowing that they didnt have rights to that land...it was the equivalent of one farmer selling a competitors field, while claiming it is his to sell.
we knew this, yet we still purchased the land and then went to war with the people that would not leave.

army officers ordered the incarceration and subsequent deaths of PEACE DELEGATIONS....on multiple occasions.

the founders of this country, including Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ben Franklin and William Penn all OWNED land companies that, even before any treaties were EVER signed, claimed lands that they KNEW were not theirs to claim. shit, old G-Dub himself felt so important he claimed over 100,000 acres along the ohio river. seriously, does any ONE person need that much land?

there are plenty of instances of whites and indians existing peacefully together, but that is not an option the american government ever offered.

Dude, I know. What we did was a fucking disgrace. I was referring to the cliche story of Thanksgiving with Squanto and his cronies teaching the Puritans to grow corn and the like. I, in no way, condone the actions of the early Americans, however we must accept that it was because of the attitude that many Americans have towards the Earth that we are a dominate global force and not some little agrarian nation, whether or not that is good.

agreed.

its just a damn shame we had to obliterate a people.

there are tribes we literally wiped out. the only reason we know about them is because of neighboring tribes that "survived".

i truly despise this holiday.
one of my ancestors taught George Washington how to survey land...
i was going to go to kentucky this year for thanksgiving, but i dont have the heart to hang out with people who live on a tiny chunk of land that we gave them.
its depressing.

and lol @ Squanto. if forgot about that cat...

Actually I heard Thanksgiving isn't about the Native Americans (or "Indians") but it was about saying Thanks to the Gods (no wait, God) for giving them like a safe passage from Europe to the Americas, and that basically it became a tradition to say thanks to God for letting our ancestors get here in one piece basically.

Of course nowadays it's another Christian (specifically, American Christianity) tradition like Christmas that everyone celebrates even though they bash Christianity/Religion their whole lives but only celebrate it (like Christmas) because they're a bunch of greedy bastards who don't even have a concept of what they're doing and simply do it, because well, the crowd/sheep effect (greedy bastards also).

However, I think the modern consensus is that it's a day to say thanks to the Natives, so yeah, I agree with Parker, you guys are fucked up if this is how you say thanks considering what happened
