I've had a Yamaha and an Ibanez acoustic in the past and they've both served their (modest) purposes well. Anything in the £100-150 quid bracket that suits your fancy and neck/fret style will do the job just fine for basic learning and the occasional strum and twiddle. Again though, remember at times that a nice electric-driven humbucker pickup is easier to play than a nylon-stringed acoustic... it all depends on what and how you want to play.

Look, in all honesty you shouldn't buy online without trying it. I mean you can get the most expensive guitar and find that you don't actually like the feel of playing it or the sound. You can get the guitar that everyone recommends and has rave reviews but find that it just doesn't feel right. You really need to spend a decent amount of time going to music shops, trying the instruments out and finding what you like and what you don't like in an acoustic. I spent over a year shopping for my guitar, (with some benefit as over the year the guitar dropped in price by $500,) even then I altered it by lowering the bridge to fit with my playing style.

As for brand advice from me, well Ibanez are good it's true although Ibanez mostly do their best work with basses. Yamaha guitars are decent in the electro-acoustic department, they have a decent sound, they're easy to play and are fairly priced. Like Musou recommended Takamine is another good brand, I think it's because they do high-end guitars as well as beginners guitars. I haven't tried an Ovation. Steer away from getting a Fender acoustic, they're not very good I find but that's just my opinion.

But seriously dude, don't just pick a guitar off recommendations and websites; actually try a few out.

Yeah, I'm a complete wanker when it comes to acoustic guitars.
