Starting sports: made me realise who I am, to stand up for myself, and tbh, it made me way more socially active.

Things I want to reach: Go out and not give a fuck about what other people think of me, whatsoever.

The strange bit here,

ALL of the major pivotal decisions in my life have been preceded by a fairly random whim.

Example;

For no discernable reason, one random day out of 3 years there, I decided to go ask out one girl one random day.  The target girl wasn't in, but her new roommate was.  New roommate then, wife of 15 years and my little girl's mother now.

Parking my Humvee on the other side of a hill, one day out of the 90 days we were on that site.  Just happens to be the day that 1st Cav Artillery decides to have an ammunition malfunction with their 155mm artillery..  12 times.. on the same exact target location .. my normal parking spot, 7000 meters short of where they should've been aiming, nevermind the fact they shouldn't have been firing over our location to begin with...

Sitting in a Hummvee, monitoring radios while the Ft. Hood III Corps XO does a Yay team! You finished it! ceremony on the newly upgraded table-12(?) tank gunnery range.  I'm randomly flipping through radio channels on our 2nd radio, while the 1st radio is tuned to range control.  1st Cav apaches just happen to speak up on an alternate range control channel, that i just happen to be tuned to, basically declaring a 'We gonna start blowin' shit up nao, mkay!'..  on the exact location where the Ft Hood 2nd-in-command is standing....
Really funny when our prim, proper West Point top-of-the-class kinda 1LT responds with 'The fuck you will!NOT proper radio procedure.

(Picking on 1CAV, just for MWNN's benefit)

lol.  I ever tell you about the time we were calling in a fire mission and we had to use a retrans site.  The retrans operator had a thick puerto rican accent, which didnt help the fact we were nearly 10 klicks away from the fob and could barely hear the retrans.  The platoon sgt with a thick mississippi accent only made things more interesting.  One of the funniest/most terrifying army moments Ive had.

fucking table 12.  I forgot the names of all those sites at hood.  Jack mountain or something silly like that is one i think.  I just remember TA-10 was right behind my motorpool.

Things get raw on the clear creek side.  Not no pussy warrior way.

Quit smoking a couple years ago.

Little daughter was a major reason for it.

Cold turkey, just gutted it out for the first couple months.
On rare occasions, I'd go out for a walk, light up a smoke, and take a small drag.
Real gut check for the first couple months, with a few necessary slips, but no crumbling.

After 6 months, I went days without ever thinking about a smoke.
After a couple years now, I can hardly stand the smell on someone's clothes.

If you ever take up skydiving, only go with former military parachutists.
Too too many of the civilian granola-crunching hippies have a ..  interesting.. view of safety procedures and parachute packing.

Last night after diner I was sitting alone at the table.

I screamed at the top of my lings " I want a chew, a fucking cigar! Anything!!! "

Scaird my kids. I feel bad about that.

The patch works. But damn.

Phantom Run,  Brookhaven, Clabber Creek, Jack Mountain

I don't recall if it was Phantom Run, or Clabber Creek.
Near end bordered one of the <something> range road,
far end touched the artillery impact zone,
'left' side of the range has a steep forested hillside that Apaches like to use for defilade fire & popup practice,
right side of the range has an unforested hill where the local range admin buildings and tower are at.

It's used for tables 7-12.  I'm not a tanker, so I just know "Table 12" as meaning "4 tanks running at once, shooting & moving", and we had to place a variety of pop-up armor billboard pits, and smaller pop-up infantry sized pits.

I do have 12 digit grid coordinates for all the for-points targets, current as of 1996...  somewhere...
Think We've talked about that before though

Man, the patch seems worse than nothing to me.
Keeps the nicotine in your system, makes it so you can go right back to smoking any day of the week, and really gets you no closer to being nicotine-free.

Cold-turkey, force-of-will gut-check is the only method I've seen to work permanently.
It sucks, it's unpleasant, .. but the majority of the unpleasantness is done and over after 7 to 14 days.
If you are going to absolutely lose your mind or temper, go outside, light one up.. but don't smoke more than one drag.
Just go through the 'ritual' of it, enjoy the smell, enjoy the 5 minute balcony break away from everyone & everything.
But. One. Drag. Only.

Myself, my Wife, and a good number of people I've known at military schools - all permanently quit that same way.  Not necessarily by choice, but..
