Recommendations? Isn't Zune doing an unlimited downloading for $20/month or so?

I'm looking for something with a monthly fee etc so I can download whatever I please, legally. Of course the library would have to be quite large for consideration...

Can you actually buy and download .wav files or are only mp3 in various bitrates available?

See that would be a service I'd actually use if you could do that.

I'm looking at the website and it seems as if you can't "keep" them forever. I don't know, it's all rather confusing.

Unlimited access to music

A Zune Pass gives you unlimited access to the music at Zune Marketplace and on Zune.net for $14.99 a month.* Play music on up to three PCs and three Zune players for as long as you keep your subscription active. You also get to keep 10 of your favorite songs each month.

The reason I download is because it's overpriced, not because I can't afford to spend money. And fuck you.

EDIT: In order for me to subscribe to it though, it'd have to be DRM free and 320kbit/s or lossless.

Well right now it looks like the catch is the songs only work as long as you're subscribed, so if you can afford $180/yr for the rest of eternity, you should be clear to download anything in their library.

I don't know though; I'm about to try their 14 day trial.

My guess would be the DRM just stops it from playing. You should be able to remove it though, but fuck going through all the effort.

Sounds gay, gayer than Bill but how do they delete the music from your PC?

My mom uses Napster and I use her account I believe it's $10/month.
However, there's a major problem with it. There's some stuff that won't let you download it with the basic member fee, you've gotta purchase the actual song. Also, you have to pay for the songs if you want to burn them (possibly even if you want to transfer them to a device).
Fortunately you can use programs that will re-record the music, thus removing the DRM.

Check out Rhapsody.  They have a "togo" service that allows you to transport songs to different media devices.  I think once you download the song is yours, but I'm not sure.

I think Amazon also offers digital albums.  I think I saw some on there, can't be sure though.

I'm looking for something with a monthly fee etc so I can download whatever I please, legally. Of course the library would have to be quite large for consideration...
Looks like it's still in beta, might be worth a look? It's free.

I haven't personally used it myself though.

Read this first before considering Rhapsody.
http://learn.rhapsody.com/plans/togo

I have Rhapsody.  Got transferred over when Yahoo Unlimited died.  It's a subscription service.  You pretty much have full access to their entire library, so long as you keep subscribed.  As for the "to go" plan, make sure your player supports the format first.  DRM protected, but there are ways to get around them.

I'm still on Rhapsody because I'm still on the old pay plan.  If I had to start over, I'd go the Zune route.  Although $15/month, you basically get 10 free non-DRM songs a month.
