When I play on a Battlefield 2 ranked, public server, the game tends to get choppy and laggy. Especially when there are many players in the game. It says on the scoreboard that my ping is usually well below 100. I have a broadband DSL internet connection. The game seems to stutter, and slows down quite substantially. My desktop PC specifications include the following.

*Foxconn G33 Motherboard.
*Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 (2.66 GHz) @ 2.66 GHz.
*6 GB of DDR2 800 MHz RAM @ 800 MHz.
*ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB (all stock clock speeds)
*400-Watt PSU.
*DVD Drive.
*All stock air coolers.
*Integrated Sound Card.
*Integrated Network Card.
*Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium.
*720p LCD Monitor.

I don't understand why a computer like this would have trouble running a game that came out in 2005. Is this a system problem? Or a lag/connection problem? Perhaps it's the server? What is causing this problem? I have a pre-built Gateway desktop PC. I have already purchased a better power supply to replace the crappy one that came with it. It is the Corsair TX750 750-Watt PSU.

What kind of lag is it? Does it pause frequently for short periods or time or skip around all over the place?

E: If it's pausing frequently try the following;

Open up Windows Task Manager (CTRL ALT DEL), hit the Processes tap. Press CPU twice and see what's taking up the majority of your CPU resources, it its an Anti-Virus or similar program, close/cancel it before playing.

Jesus dude, it could be anything, and I gotta go to work.

Replacing PSU is good 400w is too low for your system is your monitor a 720p HDTV? When I got my new monitor I played at 60hz native resolution and got over 100fps but it was completely unplayable because of the refresh rate it looked really really choppy at constant 100fps but then I changed it to a slightly lower res so I could use 75hz and it reduces pretty much all of the tearing so it could be that- if you get high fps tearing can look like really low and choppy frame rate, try seeing what fps you get with fraps or in game press the ` key and type renderer.drawfps 1 to see, if you are getting high fps then it's prob tearing, if not ping spikes can make the game really choppy.
Like Irish said it could be anything lol make sure you havent got anything running in background etc not that it should matter with your CPU, saying that it could be windows vista, I used to use it for years and BF2 was always very choppy I went to XP and it couldn't be smoother, windows 7 will prob sort out any of them problems
