Right so I gamble at both places, Wall Street and my local horse racing casino best buffet ever place Canterbury Park (http://www.canterburypark.com/)

The reason for this post is simple....if I gave you 1000 dollars of whatever currency, which would you gamble on?  horses or stock market and why? (and thats the only two choices if you want to say null vote or a third choice piss off to EE chats).

I ask because I recently sat down and looked at both gambling investments and found over the past 8 years or so I have made almost twice as much with the horses versus the crooks...erm stock market.  Ya the stock market may have tanked but even when it was good....really good, they were about even anyway.

I would get my friend Jonny who is a master at picksix and have him go all in for me at the track.

Or I'd buddy up with one of the souless vampires that work for zombie banks and get some inside information and bet energy stocks.

If I were older, a little more responsible and wanted a long term, secure investment with a small yield to pass on to my Grandkids then stock market.

However, I'm not old and I'm all about the instant dollar, so Horse racing. I do the Grand national every year, last time I put my horse to win on like 16-1 and it came second. Meh.

For $1000, the horse track. If I am going to invest serious money I'm going to do serious research in a company I believe in and invest there.

Even if you were all that, the stock market is still a gamble. Why not invest in your own business? Still a gamble, of course.

Of course, everything is. Not as volatile as massively rookie horse race betting.

Walking down the street is a gamble.

you can research all you want, you cant know what is going on inside the company or in the high level CEO meetings.

That's why I would invest in small companies. Ideally where I could actually meet the CEO.

This idea that handing your money over to someone who uses trends, market predictions, and diversification to shave off profit from companies they know nothing about and calling that investing is fucking bullshit. It's abusing the idea of the stock market and is no better than gambling.

The best way to make money on the stock market is to do the exact opposite of what everyone else is doing.

Investing is not risk-free. My point is there is a huge difference between actual investing where you understand the system you are putting your money into, how they in turn are going to invest the money, and exactly what the risk/reward situation is. The difference is an informed decision not a risk-free decision.

Unless you know the guy that tranq'd some of the horses I don't know how it is more informed than what the suits on wall street do.

No, if you find a company with a vision and people you trust, that means lower risk. It does not mean no risk, but it is an informed decision.

A start up is the kind of company that you can expect a 200% return on if anything.
