I live in Denmark and if it wasn't for the language I'd consider germany..

I'm kinda leaning towards Sweden atm tho'... I need to do more thorough research however...

Isn't Danish similar to German?
Danish and norwegian are very similar, so much so that we can talk to eachother using our seperate languages and still understand most of it...

Swedish is also very similar, but hard to understand either way if spoken fluently, slowing it down abit and explaining stuff, helps a dane and a swede communicate in seperate languages...

German however, is as different from danish as english is....

And every danish kid has english from the 5th grade and because of that, the majority of young danes, speak english to some degree, and alot of them fluently...

Well, if we're comparing countries by immigrants per capita, Canada is actually at the top of the list.
I thought it was because they can then cross the border into the USA. Is this not the case. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Could be my chauvinism. As for Australia New Zealand. I am thoroughly uninformed as to there immigration laws and policies or stats.
um no. They would prefer to LIVE in canada. Immigrate doesn't mean grab a plane and fuck off to another country.

Australia has a huge immigration population recently after they removed teh white australia policy.

Pretty much.  We do attract a lot of people, but so do many other prosperous countries.  Plus, restrictions on immigration within each country muddle the measure of desire to immigrate.

Part of why America has so many immigrants is because we allow more of them in than many other countries.  If I'm not mistaken, we actually allow more immigrants in on an annual basis than any other country.  However, as Canada shows, there are some countries that allow more immigrants in than us as compared to their total populations.

It's hard to say exactly how immigration per capita would look worldwide if every country was completely open to all immigration.  I think America would still be in the top 10 or top 5, but I don't know if we'd be at the very top.  We probably would still be at the top in terms of total immigration though.
Indeed you have the most immigrants and by far too.

However, you do not rank first in terms of percentage.
Interesting...  I didn't realize our total was quite that large.  That first chart isn't representative of annual immigration (otherwise, we'd be growing at a ridiculous rate), but it is interesting to see what the total is among the population cumulatively.

The second chart isn't annual in percentage either, but again, seeing the cumulative percentage is interesting as well.   I guess when I was thinking of Canada, I was recollecting a chart showing annual immigration for OECD countries.

I had totally forgotten just how much immigration is happening in the UAE.  Granted, some of that just involves migrant labor that is temporary.  I didn't realize Switzerland and Australia had so many immigrants too.
Immigration IIRC is about half our population growth. Good thing too or we would be struggling to not be sub-replacement and we would be facing the mother of all aging population/skill shortage crises (although we still have those issues anyway).

It does, on a domestic political note, make some of the recent argy-bargy seem more than a little irrational.

Your sir are correct.  As long as there is a demand for the shit they make they'll continue to make it and profit from it.  When you go to Wal-mart or Target and buy shit products from China then you're supporting the shit Products from China and perpetuating all of this.

They couldn't make shit products from China is no one bought them now could they?

ftw means what, ( for the win ) ?

The  price of chinese products is usually 1/3 that of anything similar.

Your picking up a box of nails. You think 3.99 or 1.50 hmm that's easy " there just nails...rite ? " Then you have to drive back to the store and buy the $4 dollar box anyway. Because the chinese nails were like putty and went into the garbage. Total cost $ 5.50

The result. You avoid chinese products like the plague. There was a time when " Made in Japan " was synonymous with JUNK. They wised up and so will china. Quality cost you less*. Till then I read a lot of labels.

The quality isn't that bad that anyone is going to boycott all Chinese products. I don't look where a product is made before I buy it, there's not really any reason to.

I wont buy any chinese product, sorry I have been burned to many times. They are even recalling children's products made with lead paint. This would have lead to another generation of democrats, perhaps that was their plan ? If you
"  don't look where a product is made before I buy it,"
and feel
" there's not really any reason to. "
that's your prerogative. have at it. I would avoid chinese smoke detectors and life jackets !

Just as an experiment - buy some Kitchen cutlery made in china. You know - all the assorted big knives stuck in a holder that amateur chefs or the killer in a horror movie use. Then tell me what you think. I look at the label and buy German cutlery.

It depends on the product.  I don't care if my alarm clock is made in China.

I do care if my tools are made in China.

I should add, I think the majority of the "checking" should be, and is, done by import authorities and the retailer itself. They may have low standards, but there are few dangerously low standards that get through here.

Just because something isn't dangerous still doesn't imply reliability.

I would agree that most Chinese goods are safe for consumption, but any product that you depend on for the long term for important purposes should probably be made in America, Canada, Europe, Australia, or Japan.

Well there's thousands of examples both for and against that generalization, as a general rule to try to adhear to I suppose i'd agree. I wouldn't go out of my way or inconveniance myself just to not buy from China/India/Taiwan/Pakistan/etc. I guess electronics is an example of a "product that you can depend on in the long term" not from America/Europe/etc. Again there are examples against this like there are every sweeping statment.

Yeah, but an alarm clock doesn't have an important purpose...

Granted, I'll agree that I've had stereos from China that have lasted a decent amount of time.

A lot of Chinese move to Vancouver and stay there.  Mississauga seems to attract a lot of South Asians.  A lot of Middle Easterners move to Europe.

Again, I don't think it's a matter of America being that much more desirable than the rest of the First World, but we do have a few advantages...

1) We have more of a melting pot mentality than any other country.  About the only countries that compare to us in this regard are Canada and Australia.

2) We're large enough that we can let in more people than most other countries feasibly can.

3) Our media is extremely pervasive throughout the world, so we essentially advertize our attractiveness to the rest of the world more than Europe does.
