The Stuxnet virus is a new breed of computer viruses that can infect PLC systems. PLC systems are the computer systems that control automation in general, mostly industrial machinery but not just that. By creating a virus that infects PLC, viruses can now disrupt or reprogram anything from factory robotic arms to submarine diving planes.

Sounds a little far fetched? Their biggest victim so far has been the Iranian Nuclear Facilities.. Iran has confirmed a couple of weeks ago that their centrifuges were damaged by the virus. Its can't be a coincidence that  the Iranian program was attacked, because these kind of virus have to be specifically targeted. They aren't like your regular windows virus that will attack any windows machine.

To make a virus like this demands allot of knowledge of industrial processes, PLC programming and specific information on your target’s industry. Not the kind of things your regular hacker/virus programmer knows. This is most likely government funded.

Tailor your virus correctly and you can attack anything that uses PLC, from baby formula mixers to missile silo doors. Next step, Skynet. Then terminators. I hope John Connor is well hidden…

I imagine Lord of War II. Where the protagonist is NOD32.

The idea of Cyberwarfare is not new. Think WOPR circa 1980. We already know that governments are funding and supporting hacking attempts. This is China trying to do damage control. What better way to disassociate yourself from hackers then to arrest the very people you hired?

Sounds brilliant ! the countries that have the most slaves/dogs will come out on top because they have a ready pool of bodies for tedious arduous labor. 80 % of Our kids are nerfed out fags that cant even tie a knot ! *
We will have to leave the southern border wide open to compete once our machines go down.

* ever notice the pants and shoes on " gen Next " or whatever they are called

Cyberwarfare is not new, but this is a whole new level. Now you can actually sabotage entire industries, or even take control of enemy equipment and factories.

big companies should have a way to throw over to strictly intra-net quickly in an emergency

That's called dropping your BGP peers. It takes a minute or two at most. The implications are pretty insane, though.

Cutting connection to outside networks can stop secrets from being stolen, but if the virus is intended to disrupt, sabotage or destroy, its made so it can work independent of an outside connection. Its only needed for the infection, once it happens its already in your intranet.

Plus, PCL equipment only works with PCL programming, there is no " manual override".

wait what? a virus usually remains dormant until triggered over the internet or by a timer, or by a certain system event (such as disconnecting from a network)... if you kill the internet, you possibly eliminate the "detonator" for the bomb, but it's also possible to trigger the "detonator"... you never know.

Anyone who's watched Terminator 3 knows that you can't 'kill' the internet.

Whenever I hear about this, I'm always like "wtf. How can these machines catch this disease?" Then i always think of this:

yeah it makes perfect sense, voting machines SHOULD not be promnisculously browsing the internet... that's how you get viruses, and that's why I feel violated when I get one.

You must be promiscuously browsing .

I do sometimes, with multiple connections
