Basically, I need better cooling for my PC. My room gets crazy hot at this time of the year because of all the insulation/weather/PC getting pretty hot. Right now I'm idling at around 70C on my i7 930 with a Thermaltake Frio cooler (2 fans). The heat becomes unbearable at times, especially right in the middle of summer.

The clear solution to me is watercooling, and I have £200 to spend on it. My question is this:

Will a watercooling setup decrease the heat that's output from my PC? I'm not sure whether this is a stupid question, really. I understand it will keep my components cooler, but will the heat generated stay confined within the watercooling setup to a noticable amount, or will I still have the same amount of heat coming from the radiator as I do from my CPU cooler now?

I'm guessing it will decrease heat output, but I want to check before I sink money into this solution.

too many parameters involved... but my logic tells me the lower the temps, the more heat i have to worry about/get rid of

but i dont know...lol

I'm guessing it's going to work as a reverse heat engine, so will kick out more heat than the current set up and keep it cooler. Efficiency would depend on components?
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

I would imagine the heat dissipates through all the liquid, resulting in less noticeable heat output.  Though I can't imagine it would decrease it by too much...

The heat still has to go somewhere. It will probably put more heat off the rad as it is a better cooler and will draw more off the cpu. Before resorting to water cooling try re-seating the heatsink with fresh paste. (Not on the pins.) If you need more info, i can respond better later when I'm not on my phone.

Holy shit. Idling at 70c?

Do you keep your PC in an oven?

Also, any performance computer is going to act as a space heater for a small room. No real way around it aside from making the room cooler by external means.

Ignoring the fact that it takes some time for the water to heat up, after that time your PC will release exactly as much heat into the room as with air cooling.

Can you mount the radiator outside somehow? Then you wouldn't heat up the room.

I don't think having the rad outside is a possibility, really. I think I may just have to do some rearranging and put my PC closer to the door, or something.

Thanks for the help/info, karma all round

The total heat output to the room will be the same as the total power consumption of the PC.

Will water cooling reduce the power consumption by improving the efficiency of the CPU?
Unless you're running TECs in there somewhere, I guess not.

There might be a marginal efficiency gain since water pumps require less power to shift heat around than cooling fans, but I guess that would be fairly small.

The obvious thing to do would be to put the radiator outside if you can.
