I realise it has to nothing to do with Aus politics, it's just that it looks kinda ironic.

American vs British spelling has always been a source of both lolz on my own time and hassle during school. I regard English as a live language and subject to adaptation, and as such used whatever spelling (as long as I didn't switch the spelling of particular words) I thought made the most sense when I wrote papers. Hardly any of my teachers agreed, so I was forced into American spelling at least for the work I turned in. You'd think the content and presentation would be more important than that, but nope.

I found that link to be pretty entertaining.

Christ on a stick.
im gonna have to keep asking this.....

why do foreigners care so damn much?  i mean some interest makes sense but you guys take it to a whole different level.  i mean i havent even heard that nor do i really care.
One Nation has very very strong Australian political overtones. Hint: name of an insanely racist party that cropped up a few years back. Just found it weird, that's all. And mildly ironic.
Probably no-one outside Australia knows anything about a tenth rate single issue party run by a fruitcake.

it's pretty rare and difficult to actually be fined for this... it's normally just a bonus infringement if you have an altercation with the police and don't comply. only enforced if you're clearly being aggressive and a nuisance to the public (or the police that are approaching you). also a nice bonus fine for drunkards and disorderly people that see fit to hurl abuse and insults at normal members of the public, who would otherwise be released the next morning with no fines or punishment and only a warning for being 'drunk and disorderly'.

i see no problem with small regulations encouraging some common respect and upholding of the peace.

perhaps you should read a few more internet articles before spouting your own mouth?

Why not just increase the punishment for those crimes?

Seems silly to make a law one knows will so easily be misunderstood simply to enact harsher punishment for another law. Not to mention making the whole thing a bureaucratic mess.

So that European food outbreak going one right now. Does anyone have some reliable statistics on it? Death rate, number of infections, etc?
