I think that on the ship u should have a long range gun or 2, like the AA on the Essex, u can sit in there and pummel the shorline and further in targets, but the shooting is just guess work, like in the tank u dont have and a guage that tells u how high 2 aim, and u can get teamwork points if ur commander tells u 2 attack a certain area, like an arty strike, but player controlled

yes juz like mortars, but the size of arty, thats exactly whhat is is, and does the same damage as arty, juz harder 2 aim, so yes, an artillery gun used juz like mortars.

destroyers to be used to soften up shorelines before the assault. i like it, kindof like from bf1942 with the battleships

Yeah,good old BF1942.

The battleships were great, you could change positions between the big guns,I remember this great time I had on Iwo Jima, everybody was just infantry fighting while I had my fun in the battleship.
Position 1,Boom,Position 2,Boom,wait til reloaded,repeat.
I got 30 kills this round,no death and surprisingly no teamkill.

But with the punishing system in BF2,kiddies with an auto-punish reflex and people who just don't understand the concept of the minimap and the blue spots on it this would just lead to a short pwning of the place followed by a swift kick due to "excessive teamkilling".

hmmmmm, i dont htink that such a good idea.... it would make usmc over powered. the only map it would be worth it is Wake.... but thats what makes wake so good, it requires the entire team to cooperate.

...so why not just use arty?

Many times in these forums have new ship-based maps been suggested (though I suppose I've been one of the only ones really trying to push the sentiment). But for now, the miniguns are effective anti-shore batteries, should there be flags within reasonable range.

At least you would have something against the tanks which camp on the beaches on Wake, the artillery doesn't hit them hard enough and the planes are usually busy bombing the airfield or getting shot down by those damn J-10s.

If there still were this "sniper-spots-targets-for-indirect-fire"-feature like in BF1942 then the artillery would actually require teamwork and skill.
Btw,this feature was awesome,I was spotting targets all the time while sneaking into enemy territory and my buddy in his "Wespe"-howitzer sat in the base and just delivered shell after shell across the whole map,the flight time of the shell was longer than the reload time so that after the first 2 rounds you get this awesome constant shelling of the same spot, you could tactically cut off some routes for the enemy that way.
It's a pity that in BF2 it's simplified to a mouseclick of the commander on his minimap,in BF1942 it was a lot more fun and it was something you actually had to learn, precise placing of artillery took a lot of skill.
