The Karkand Tank (Whore) Guide (USMC) V1.0
Actually this guide includes a tactic for players who use armors as a organized team on Karkand. Some parts of this guide do also work on other maps, especially with some cover next to you, but you should think about using a tank and an AA-vehicle.
Karkand is different to the other maps as you don’t have to fear a threat from above.
This tactic works on US side, we did not try it on MEC side extensively, but Step 4 might even work for them. You might have to practice this strategy for some time until it works well and it assumes that you are not a total armor noob and know how to handle a tank or APC, but after (a lot of) training you will be able to win more rounds than before.
For me it was the main reason why I got my WCR.
I would like to know if you’ve got some suggestions to improve this strategy
Prerequisites: What you need
- A server running a 32 or 64 player (better and more fun) map
- At least two people
- Voice communication (Voip is ok, TS is better)
- Two armored vehicles (this is a tank guide )
Step 1: The beginning
Everyone spawns as engineer at the gas station and tries to get a vehicle. Nothing special.
Assuming that you got two vehicles, go over to step 2. Otherwise the one who has no vehicle waits, while the other goes over to step 2 alone.
(Later, when you’ve got 2 vehicles and you are more than two people, the guys without a vehicle stay next to the tanks to support them. They can choose a class they like.)
Step 2: Time is important
This step should be achieved as fast as possible. Drive into the town, ignore the hotel and don’t stop to kill someone. Capture the square (only if there are just a few players on the other team) or suburb in order to stop the losing of tickets. Remember, you want to win the round.
Usually its not necessary to stay together all the way, so that an APC could leave a tank alone for a short while.
Step 3: Taking part in the battle
It is not unusual to face enemy armored vehicles while taking the first flag. With two vehicles you should have no problems to destroy a tank within a few seconds.
After getting the first flag clearing the western side of the river becomes your main objective.
Special rule on 32 player maps: don’t try to take the market without many infantry around you. This flag is hardly better than pressing the suicide button. You can be shoot from almost every building around you and Spec-ops have some good cover.
Stay together and tell each other what you are going to do. While attacking a flag you should drive side by side and not in a line. So you can avoid that one of you can not shoot while the other has to do all the work alone. Driving side by side allows both of you to see incoming threats like mines (better than pushing each other into it) or armors.
You can even survive a hit with the TOW when you are repairing each other.
If you notice that the resistance is too strong, don’t be so stupid and think you are Superman. You remember the suicide button? You are allowed to withdraw and attack from another side / another position first.
While attacking a flag / fighting against many enemies you will have to stop moving. These situations are dangerous and you are a nice target for Spec-ops and artillery and maybe even for a TOW. Listen to the noises around you, you can hear artillery from far away, so changing your position when you hear it is not the worst choice.
(Remember: only a direct hit with artillery will kill you, but two APCs / tanks are a much bigger target than a single vehicle)
Make sure that you move close together when you are under enemy AT-fire and learn how to look around you. destroy a TOW when you go for a flag.
Step 4: Defend your side of the river
After your team has captured all flags at the western side of the river, you should stay at this side for a while. The train gives you some good cover so that the only two places where you can be shot from the other side are at the flag and at the water.
You don’t have to go the other side, usually the enemy will come to you.
Make sure that both of you can move in forward and backward direction, which means that you have to move parallel to each other.
The advantage of defending this position is the following: You can wait for the enemy and shoot at him when he comes around the corner and before he is able to do his first shot. Furthermore it is difficult to bring two or three armored vehicles into a good position to fire.
To improve your defense you could use C4 or mines.
Make sure that nobody can get on your side and take a flag there. Otherwise you will be attacked from two sides. Shoot over the river (usually there are a lot of targets, especially on a 64 player server) and make sure that you do not run out of ammo. (Request supplies in good time)
If one of you gets killed, the other(s) have to decide weather they can hold the position of if it is better to withdraw until the other rejoins him.
Step 5: Move to the other side
You should do this when your team has taken the cements or the gatehouse and the attacks on your side are slackening. Move to your flag and defend it, covering your advancing infantry.
