But I reckon Wake Island is the way to go with Mines... as the enemy have to drive through certain areas.  What do other people think?
Not so.  I play as engineer quite a bit and I've found that the map is so spread out that per capita population of mines to enemies is tough to get right.  Meaning it's hard to get close enough to an enemy spawn point to effectively mine.  Mining in between their spawn point and yours inevetably results in massive TKs because the jeeps have such a distance to travel that they go very fast (and don't see the mines until they hit).  Mining your own flag is also a dangerous proposition on Wake because vehicles spawn at every base, and each vehicle spawn points towards the flag.  Dumb team mates love to just hop in a vehicle and drive straight (obviously in awe of the pretty red skulls).

Also worth noting, using mining as a strategy to attain the explosives badge is now much more difficult as mines can be blown up by rockets, air power, grenades, and other explosives.  No more leaving mines on one side of the map and playing on the other racking up kills.

Last point on mining... I have had great success and 0 TKs by playing as U.S. and mining the bridge on Karkand at the start of the map.  Sneak over to the bridge area, drop one or two on the land bridge on the way, mine the bridge with the rest, hide over by the hill/building/small wall where the TOW is and call for supplies.  The kills just rack up as you've got the only two areas where their armor passes all mined up.  Note that it's best not to cap the bridge flag if using this strategy or else you will start to get TKs.

My strategy for getting the explosives badge was to use C4 and take up defensive positions around flags on Sharqi or Zatar (any map w/ no air will do).  Defensive C4 is best arranged as follows: Stick one to the flag by jumping and throwing (for choppers), 2-3 in a circular pattern around the base of the flag (for armor and vehicles), and 1-2 stuck on walls near the flag where an infantry can hide but still cap your flag.  Take a position where you can see the flag but are hidden (best if it's elevated), call for supplies (resuply BEFORE you blow your current C4).  Lastly, don't hit the C4 until after your flag is almost completely capped thereby allowing time for additional enemy to roll up.

If you try this and still can't get the badge... I don't know what else to say.  Good luck out there.

I think the best and easiest way to get the bagde is to take sniper and play a city map. Just drop the claymore if u see enemy and run towards him to drop another....if u die, then its no big deal, the point is that that enemy who killed u will probably walk right into the another mine u just layed. AND, if u are as sniper, start just walking wth the claymore. If enemy shoots ya then just drop it and try to run if u dont want to die. Try to lay them into some alleys where commonly most of the enemy passes...once i ran into a room with a whole enemy squad in there, just threw that clay in and BANG!, they all died...its a freaking awesome revenge tool!

The server messages with 'no c4 suicide bombing or kick' baffles me..i mean 'why the hell not'? its not like its padding.. your still keeping the enemy back and taking out much needed tanks/vehicles till respawn thus allowing your own team to still reach objective flag cap/defense/hold etc etc and if you get a badge in the process, well thats a bonus.. my guess is they just hate it when they have to constantly wait for a new tank/apc to spawn that p****s them off the most

I finally got my veteran explosives over the weekend.  Kinda mad because I ended the map with 4 short of expert.  Mostly I lucked out on Karkand.  Managed to kill 7 with 1 C4, saw that 2 medics were running over...waitied a few more seconds for the revives and got 4 more kills with the second c4.

Jihad Jeeps/humvee's/ATV's/Jets/Helo's.

Put all 5 C4 on the hood/nose and scream BONZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII as you plow into bad guys. Do it non stop for one round till you get your badge.

c4 on a 64 player karkand server with 32 or lesser players. I did manage to get it on a 64 player populated with 54 people, but the stats never recorded. So I had to do it again (expert badge), wasn't easy. However the biggest tip besides what I just explained is not to think about it during the round. If you concentrate to much, you'll screw up. Only start to go banannas for the last 7.

Car bomb till you can't car bomb no more who cares if you die in the process. People may get pissed off, but then you can laugh at how many times you killed them over and over doing the same exact thing.

i havent tried to get explosives yet, ive been tryin for knife.  I swear to god i will never get that badge, its impossible for me to get 3 knife kills in a game, never the less 7.  I wish ea would think about the number required on some badges.

I have a question, does your suicides get subtracted from your kill count if you are jihad jeeping?

I swear I got 23 kills with C4, but no badge, perhaps I killed myself too much.

yes, your suicides do count against you! try to prevent killing yourself. i learned this today on karkand. i took out 15 people with c4, but unfortunately i killed myself 3 times in the process. once again i fall one short of this annoying badge. and believe me, i counted correctly. im going to continue with c4 on karkand, they seem like the right combo for me. i tried claymores, but my idiot teammates would keep running into them like moths onto a flame.

I think the knife and pistol badges are a cake walk compared to the explosive badge. Yes I know I'm a n00b because I only got 65 hours online but I enjoy this game.

if you don't already know how to, learn to throw the C4 long distances and learn how to chuck it over walls and fences and onto small rooftops

if you set up a trap, always hide your C4 out of the enemy's view, this way you can use the same tactic more then once

been playing the past few nights.......... getting nowhere near the knife, pistol and explosives badge requirements..... partly because i refused to jihad jeep and love the tank/apc thing too much.

getting frustrated about the explosive badge.... considering jihad jeeping now, terrible i know.....sigh....

I agree that the vetran and expert badges are difficult, but the basic is pretty easy.  Someone touched on it earlier, but if you keep suicide car bombing, you'll get it in no time.  You just have to be dedicated to it because your not going to kill someoen everytime you do it.

In the end it does make you a better player though, because you commit yourself to a tactic you haven't used before and because of that commitment learning other tactics makes you more flexable in combat.

Its not hard. Like some of you, I used to think it was impossible. Its not hard if you know one thing: that you can detonate C4 in mid air. Basically, you run towards a group, jump throw the C4 at them, then detonate it above them. And you are thinking, but that will kill me too. Nope. You can throw C4 far enough to where you will be out of the blast radius. Now that you know, just find a full 64 man karkand map and use your C4 like grenades and you'll have your expert badge in no time.

Now to the part you need to know. How the hell do I blow up the C4 in mid air? It takes too long to switch to the detonator. Remember remote mines in Goldeneye on Nintendo 64? Remember that little trick where you could blow up the mines without switching to the detonator. Ill leave you guys with that little hint.

People should stop offering suggestions for the explosives ordinance badge.  That's not the point of this post, otherwise it would be posted in the HELP section.  This post is just a general rant about not getting it and don't even want it now.  So no help is needed!  Right ISIK_Dark?

I had alot of fun getting this badge.  Got it as Marine on Gulf of Oman.  Drivin the Jihad Jeep into clusters of Mecs or seeking out Mec armor.  Also managed my Vet Spec Ops badge the same round.  I have found out that, if you get up a good deal of speed, there is an art to bailing out, letting your car bomb roll those last 20 feet into your victims, and tripping the switch. (thanks Fingersniffer)   The bummer is finding more C4 without dying to continue your rampage.  Just remember, it's a game. Have some fun.  Appologize if you are being an asshat.  Some of the guys complained after my repeated jeep attacks, but were cool when I explained that I was getting my basic explosives badge.  After I got it, I switched to medic for the remainder of the round.

That badge can be hard if you are doing it on the wrong map.  Try to find a map with alot of bottlenecks and just ambush the enemy when they come through.

echo virus, you have intrigued me. but in goldeneye, i thought those mies were motion sensitive. c4 is not supposed to explode unless you pull the trigger. ive personally been having trouble when i lay some c4 down, switch to detonater, hit the button, and i toss more c4 instead of blowing it up. ive gotten killed so many times because of this timing glitch. please, when you say you have an answer, give an actual answer, instead of referencing goldeneye.

your pistol work is amazing by the way. thats something i work on every time i play.

For the longest time, I couldn't figure it out either.  I play in a ladder and in competition, you will see this method used a lot.  And for good reason.  One shot kills which are more effective close range than noob tubes.

I now know how to do it, but I won't share it over an internet forum.  Honestly, this could make for a lame time if the pubs get a hold of the info.  That guy gave maybe too much info with the Goldeneye hint, I think.  But I won't leave you totally empty-handed.

Some things to keep in mind:
1.) It's a lag issue when it switches back to the packs and not the detonator.
2.) Practice it.  Go on an empty server and not singleplayer so that you have a normal ping and not 0.
3.) Watch others for technique.

And oh yeah, remember that it is still pretty lame.  I only use it when I'm out of ammo or went for the badges.

ITs easy to get the explosive badge if you go to a 64 size map that has only 32 people playing
