Any kind of synopses CameronPoe?  Like war flick?  Never mind - I just remembered IMDB.

Watched it last night ...very good.

I had read reviews claiming Ken Loach had forced his communist ideas on the movie's overall theme but that's not true, imo it reflects quite objectively the socialist background to the Republican movement. It was this socialist desire to not only overthrow the yoke of official British rule in Ireland but the British class system that had come to permeate Irish life that was a driving force behind many anti-treaty Republicans. As one character points out in the film, had we accepted the treaty wholesale we would have only been 'changing the colour of the flag and the accents of the upper class'.

Is it a film that only the Irish will get? (Or care about?)

Well it's a part of British history too, I don't know how pleased some British will be with the portrayal of the Black and Tans (though my great Granny, who lived to 96 did say they were a mean shower of bastards) but the movie did show how the IRB often struggled with the task of killing young soldiers from Britain as part of the cause. I think its a film British people should watch, especially anyone who has opinions on our turbulent history with each other.

The Palm D'Or (or 'Golden Palm' in English ...or 'An pailm ór' in Gaeilge!) is the most coveted prize in the film world!

Never seen the movie you're talking about, nor heard of it for that matter but, Saving Private Ryan > Realistic movies

Saving Private Ryan could arguably be described itself as a hyper-realist movie. Wind That Shakes The Barley is a traditional realist movie, they're both great though.

And if he had made a new thread, someone would have linked him to this one.

This is why I don't make threads. Or post very much.

Except in the EU server section

EU SERVER FTW!

I'm sorry Ryan but wtf are you on about? If a topic has been discussed before, and someone wants to make a post about that topic, they will naturally find a thread about it, instead of making a brand new one. And reviving old threads (if not overdone) is a benefit to a lot of other people who may not have seen that thread and find it interesting.

Kudos to Braddock for actually finding this thread.
