a new feature for entering and exiting cars:
"e" for traditional "exit/enter vehicle"
"r" for "exit vehicle with _keys_"

When a player tries to get into a vehicle which doesn't have keys in ignition, she/he could only enter non driver position like gunner or passenger. If it's 1-seater he could't enter it at all.
Both parties would be notified of the situation:
carjacker:  "soldiername" has keys for this ride
keyholder:  "soldiername" is trying to hotwire your ride

if player holding the keys
- is killed/wounded
- is more than 5m away from the vehicle
- is outside for more than ~30sec
- enters another vehicle
the keys are returned to the ignition (iow vehicle made available for other players)

and all this just for the sake of making engineers life easier

Quickly thinking it would probably work and only way to exploit it would be entering and exiting with keys constantly which is rather mindless.

Played yesterday and s.b. always jumped in while i fixed it, but he got out as soon as i was ready... nice teamplay.
with the keys thing i think i will lead to more teamkills...
but it is not a bad idea i'm just saying that you can not change the way other ppl play the game... it is sad somtimes...

S'okay I guess.  I don't really like the whole notification aspect of it.  When was the last time you were notified your ride was stolen before it was actually stolen?

"Hey man, just want to let you know, I'll jackin' your ride in a few.  Later."

If they jack peoples rides you should also be able to verbally abuse them via the coma rose

Not a bad idea. I think this option should only be available to engineers though. Also, I think enemies would be immune to the key thing. 30 seconds might be a bit too much time. Maybe 20 seconds. So that way you have to get back in the vehicle again to reclaim it, then finish repairs.

i wouldn't like it. So often i find myself putting C4 on a vehicle, when the driver sees me, and he hops out. Then i just hop in, kill him and drive off with an explosive APC/tank/whatever.

Heh, this "improvement" was ment for BF2 not for grand theft auto

Small tweaks:
- enemies would be immune to the keythingie
- not only engineers would be able to exit with keys, sometimes for medics and supports it's useful to exit the vehicle to drop a few ammopacks or revive some dead tired soldiers.
