Hi!

HALO = High Altitude,Low Opening

I have noticed lately that most people immediately open their parachutes when they bail out.
So basically they perform a HAHO-jump,High Altitude,High Opening - which is totally stupid.
I enjoy killing paratroopers with my sniper rifle while they slowly "descend from heaven",feels like duck hunting.

I always perform a HALO-jump,I open the parachute at the very last moment.
This gives you the advantage of not being able to be shot at while in the air...I think even spotting you is difficult while you freefall.
Today I got on the carrier that way, completely unnoticed from everybody on the deck.
Just the part where you need to get with the heli over the carrier is a bit difficult. Then you jump out at 200,250 meters and just let yourself fall, you open the parachute at a height of about 3-4 meters, just as if you jump off a low roof.
There are a lot of applications for this, but it seems a lot of people are not really aware of it.

Since BF1942 I have been HALO-jumping and kept this habit in BF2...So I've got 22 hours aviator,44 hours helicopter and a parachute time of 14 minutes...isn't that much,is it?

Anyways,use the HALO-jump,saves tickets.

I always open it up at the last second. but sometimes me and my friends like to all bail out and press the parachute right away. it looks cool seeing 6 people parachuting...

I have only made One HAHO in the game... I wanted the ribbon for para so I opened it up high in the air...
Ahhh what a boring game that was, almost a full minute in a parachute

Nub?  Isn't that the blunt point of a pencil?

We have been HALOing since year dot.  When you are pinned back to one flag, it's great to get your squad into a transport chopper, do a little low level flying to a corner of the map, get some real altitude, then go and hover over an enemy flag, then watch as six guys all fall out.

When you're like 400 meters up, so the AA can't see you, watching the guy in front of you spin and twirl as he falls is pretty sweet.  You all open up at the last second and in about 5 seconds, you've capped the flag and are already moving on...

The first time I played the demo, the first day it was out, I hopped in an F35, flew as high as I could above the construction site and bailed.

I don't think I was the first to do it in BF2, but I was very close.

I then opened just before I hit the ground, and even the sniper on the crane didn't see me. I then went to my soon-famous construction capping spot, waited for the sniper to jump down whilst I capped the flag and then killed him.

It's a good tactic for capping and you can have fun if you and a few friends open the chutes high up and then spam nades and c4 and AT mines on an enemy base. Almost like Blackhawk whoring but shorter lived.

Myself and a few mates play and we used to own maps with a black hawk.

Get the squad leader to fly the chopper, go up as high as the chopper will go, into the mist where most of the time the planes cant see ya, used to be about 600ft. Then all 5 on board just bailed over the flags, while the SL hovered directly above. if ya get zapped, respawn on the chopper and jump again til the flag is capped, then regroup on board and move on. Was a pig for the SL as he got no points but it was great craic 5 guys pretending they are the SAS

Its not as good now the chopper ceiling has been reduced and the blackhawks are about as easy defended as a cow defends itself against an RPG

Yep, always, but I've also lost count of the number of times I've pressed 9 too late and ended up a pavement pizza. That and the number of times on SF I've jumped off a building and plummeted to my death with a gas mask on.

sometimes, just to annoy APC's, I'll open my parachute at 500 meters up, and just aim at armor with AT the entire way down. It's great watching their little turrets spinning around, trying to see what's shooting at them ^^

My question is how many of you travel around while flying in the air. It is possible to get to the carrier by hovering over the arty island at 300-350 ft and then just aiming yourself on deck. Then just open parachute at last second and your ride is virtually undetectable. I haven't tried it with the new chopper ceilings, but you can travel pretty far indeed.

One application was to have the chopper hover in the middle of say, Wake Island, and then by spawning on it, you can bail and get to any of the 5 flags by just flying to that one. Just bail, look up as far as you can, and point yourself in the direction you want to go. You'll see some good amount of horizontal displacement. To stop, you just look back down and you'll fall straight down.

But yes, I love nothing more than a squad of 6 troops bail over the carrier, open their chutes a little too early, and seeing half of them fall of the side of the deck, one will splat like an idiot because of "lag", another will actually make it, and the last one I will snipe out of the sky.

Lol, dude you should try it on the Essex, or on planes leaving the carrier. Gotta love them trying to find you while you just hapilly launch rocket after rocket.

I do a lot.  However I rarely get in a plane or heli.  Unless Im trying to parachute out of my tank or humvee, in which case, I do a LALO.

I always use it unless I'm not over where I need to be.
I'm often AT too, so I also like the open high over an enemy base, you even have enough time to take out a tank before you land! (although 15 ground pounders will have seen you coming down) Great to watch the turret spinning round and around while they look for the source of that high-pitched tone, and as you're over them no matter where they go it doesn't stop.

Most of my parachuting is on Warlord and the type of jump I do depends on where i want to go. If I am aiming for the carpark if i wanted to fire a tear gaas or AT rocket before charging over the ramp in a pickup then I will open low or mid jump and flare the parachute whilst looking down. I also low if snipers are in the area.

If I am a sniper and aiming for one of the roofs I will open high, look straight ahead and hold w to get onto the roofs.

Anyone tried paragliding here? Works well on Iron Gator. Go up high, bail, hit 9, and glide in.
