As a way of repentence I will be giving up BF2 for good.

http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=37728

I cannot forgive myself for what I have done and never will. Over 200 pictures of one of the hardest times in our family are gone. Some will say, its for the best to forget the bad but it isn't. And no, to all you shallow jerks out there, I will not be giving away my account.

My friend, take hope. Pictures may be gone. But is it not true that the memories exist inside your family and yourself?

You don't have to give up BF2. You don't have to feel bad. I can see that what you lost was very important to you, but dude, you "gotta look on the bright side of life".

You don't have to forget, just remember. Their files on your computer. Sure, there not in any folder, but are they not in your memories?

Take a deep breath, get some rest, and you'll feel better. The community is here for you.

There are still options if you have not formatted the drive. Check your local computer store or university if there is one near you. There are people out there who specialize in data recovery. You would not believe the things that they can recover. If you live near west tn or north mississippi I have the number of someone who may be able to help. Just pm if you want the number. Like I said just don't touch the computer until you have spoken with a expert of about getting the info off the hard drive.

Thanks guys for all your support. I just wish I had the stuff the FBI has to find stuff deep in the hard drive, but somehow I don't think the FBI would cooperate with me. Its true that the memories are still with us but its just that there were pictures when she was completely unaware until she recovered.

My parents knew there was something wrong with the computer and that I was extremly upset about the current state of it (this dump computer from HP always gets messed up. Somehow, after returning home my sister had played on it and it didn't work again.) What they don't know is that i did the System Recovery and lost the pictures. Now there are pictures from before but they're only about 200 or so. Currently I have about 340 or so out of the original 500+. Its a very depressing statistic. As may not know I'm 15 and well, I've had stress before from studying but nothing that was emo or suicidal. This time its just a humongous guilt factor. I might just take a humongous break from BF2 and return when BF7 comes out.

P.S. I would give my account away but the task of changing the password is so long and its connected with just about every other thing I use e.g. e-mail

Maybe I can help you, First of all I will need to know what your drive is formatted to. (i.e. FAT32, NTFS, ect.)
I have a program called GetDataBack and it might help you.

It was an honest mistake and could have happened because of Office, IE, Trillian, whatever.  You certainly didn't intend for this to happen and your family certainly had other options for data security than burdening you with the entirety of it.

And I would say that the important memories are certainly still in your (and perhaps more importantly to you - their) heart.

if it were me i would buy another harddrive and istall your os back on it.. take your old harddrive out and give it  to someone who knows data forensics... me being a student in the forensic field knows that all that info is still there just needs to be recovered.. and it isnt that hard... probably just cost about 100 bucks for an hours work.  100 bucks isnt that much if the pics are as important as you say!

I'm lost. You lost 200 pictures so you made two topics and quit a game?

GetDataBack:

Recover your files when the data is no longer accessible due to formatting, fdisk, virus attack, power or software failure. Get everything back even when the drive's partition table, boot record, Master File Table or root directory is lost or corrupt.

I have a full version of this program. So hit me up on Xfire or MSN and I can help you.

Err.... I don't know you.

I'm more than twice your age.

Hopefully that makes me a little more experienced in life.

Unless an addiction to a videogame was what caused the screw-up, I would advise *against* punishing yourself by quitting something you love.

Everyone makes mistakes. We are human. In fact, mistakes are so fundmental to being human that the human brain learns more from making mistakes than it does from doing things right the first time.

Learn from your mistakes, sure, but don't punish yourself to try and make-up for it. You'll only create a feeling of resentment over losing a hobby you love. Resentment that will get redirected to something that didn't cause the mistake, but the mistake involved. That's not healthy, in fact it's a ticket to see the shrink.

So in short - unless an addiction to BF2 caused the mistake, don't give it up because then you'll just mess your own head-up. In fact, during hard times it is good to keep at hobbies you like and enjoy - it is often like a form of meditation and can keep your emotions from spiralling out of control.

Best regards,

Windy

i agree with Bigmack & Windrider_Melb on this one.  Don't give up a hobbie just because you made a mistake.  I am sorry that you lost the pictures, but i'm sure that there is SOME way to get them back, and as you said, you still have 340 left right? so at least it wasn't all of them, plus, the memories stay with you right?

I say, just rest, think, and play more BF2, and you'll be fine in a couple days.  Also, spend a day or so alone, that has always helped me when i was feeling like shit (or guilty)

Theres one thing I didn't mention, even if i did come back I would need the CDs b/c it could taken away from the hard drive and my dad has those. See, my dad doesn't really like me playing games for 2 hours...even if half that time is crashing and all that.

your doing the right thing by making posts about it, but a forum can only go so far.  talk it out with your loved ones, family, friends.  don't know what exactly happened or the significance of it but speak your mind to others.  many here are right.  a hobby during a stressful time can only help.  sounds like your gonna learn a thing or two about data recovery as well.  dont talk like its the end, dude, their pictures.  i've lost plenty o' files due to being a bone head and not backing them up.  wish i had a nickel for everytime i said "yeah, i just gotta burn it to disk".  take a break, recoop, and then reorganize.  there will always be us here in the forums for ya, with a swift boot to the ass to get you jumpin in the nearest server!!!!

If you can't get the pictures back yourself, why don't you just take them to the Geek Squad or something? I don't think I've read yet why that isn't a solution.

Everyone makes mistakes, that's why pencils have erasers.

Just make sure you learn this time around and FFS back up your data if it is that important.

Good luck.

I don't know if someone has posted this but data is not fully erased until it has be written over. There is a strong possibilty that your images may be recovered.
