1 Gig of ram is not enough, alt tab out of BF2 when you are playing and look in the task manager and you will see!  I have 4 gig and BF2 uses uses just over 1200 megabytes of ram! Look anywhere about RAM on these forums and everyone will tell you 1 gig is not enough, 2 or more is much better!  Long past are the days when 1 gig is considered a lot!

If your measurements are in degrees celcius, then turn off your computer now before permament damage occurs!  my 7950's run at 63 degress under load, so you should be aiming for the same! i suggest running yuor machine with the case open or off to see if you can improve the airflow...  If your computer is really noisey, then it could be a sign that your fans are on tehir way out, replace them or lubricate them with a silicon based oil   If you want help, then my xfire is Kehaar...

Your cooking your cpu. Take the side off your case and see what the temp drops to. It's a typical problem with some Dell computers!

I just checked to see what my temps are while in game(made possible from using 2 monitors) and the highest temp was 52 degrees celcius for the CPU. Mind you I'm using a Thermaltake Tai Chi liquid cooled tower, but all graphic settings are on high, x4 AA, 2 gig RAM. Screen res is 1280 x 1024(both monitors).

I'll show you a screen dump of my "GPU" core temp...It's using the Nvidia control pannel! It says GPU not CPU maybe I am getting a bit confused, but that's the only temperature graph I can find so have a look...

Yes, 1 Gig is enough, with my graphics settings on low! BF2 runs ABSOLUTELY PROBLEM FREE on the computer downstairs, which is the same specs as mine...!!! Same graphics card too (different forceware though) but mine was the same forceware as downstairs even when the first time I played the battlefield 2 demo (downloaded from download.com). The demo didn't run properly eother, it locked up just the same...

Maybe it's just my shitty luck with my shitty pc!

And besides, the downstairs computer which works, has the hard drives full up of digital photographs, (IT ALSO RUNS NORTON ANTI-VIRUS IN THE BACKGROUND, SO I UNINSTALLED IT FOR NOTHING! ) MP3 tracks and videos ect ect...BOTH WITH 1 GB RAM

I don't get it...

I think i'm going to cry soon

P.S i'm not too sure how to check my cpu temp, isn't there a piece of software that can tell you...

Oh and I just found out what GPU "graphics processing unit" was... Woops...so my pc isn't cooking?

much kudos to everyone helping out here.

My best guess would be a temperature problem, but perhaps some other program is running and maxing out your system.  For example are you downloading mail every 5 min? or checking for updates with your anti virus in the background?

Also, did you try the earlier post, and run another resource heavy game, to see if that crashes out as well?
What was the result.

Best of luck, but i think you may have to resort to playing on your other system.

p.s.   my CPU runs at 36 deg C when idle.

Cool, happy to know its not your cpu!
There is a program. I'll find a link for you.

IS there enough air circulation around the tower?

Ok, bro lets try a few other things. You are going to need to access your Bios and look for AGP apature size and set that to the size of your vid card (in MB). Then try to find the system fan settings and try to max out your fan speed, might also want to look into getting an after market heatsink and fan ($25-$50 US).

BF2 is a mem hog try to get another gig if possible.
I have an nvidia geforce 6200 512mb and they game plays great at med / high settings
Hope this helps
