Sup all.

As some of you may know, I am part of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in my city and were having a tournament coming up soon.

Only problem is, I am not of enough weight to participate...

I am currently at 149 lbs and the cutoff is 160.

HOWEVER, the division is set for 160-180 so technically.. If I'm at 160, I qualify but there will be people close to 180 so they have strength advantage.


My question is... how to gain good weight quickly?  The tournament is on Nov. 28...

Any good supplements recommended?

I've been taking whey protein and amino acids in all my training thus far, my regiment (2-3 times a week):
3 sets of 50 declined pushups with 5 mins rest between (warm-up)
15 mins on treadmill with 8% incline
conditioning (dropping to mat on back, knees, arms, shoulders etc) for 10 mins
3 sets of 20 rep 15 lb standing flys (2 mins between)
15 mins on treadmill with 8% incline
general power exercises afterwards (varies)

Note that I don't do ANY weight training, I'm trying to focus on power rather than muscle.  Should my regiment be changed to gain weight?

carbs arnt bad..aslong as you have a balanced diet. Work out and then eat fruit, protein and driink a lot of water while doing it. It also helps to train the right way. You dont neccissarily have to wight train but if you are looking for muscle mass to be added to your upper body and the main muscles then do that

This may be way past the deadline Nyte but since you might still be involved in BJJ I thought I'd chip in.  I'm a Blue Belt at the Gracie BJJ Academy, 230lbs 6'4".  Eat a balanced diet of course but bigger portions than normal.  Yes you need to weight train to build muscle mass.  Other excercise will burn fat off hence no weight gain.  Muscle is heavier than fat anyway so that's good because you don't have to become some fat jelly roll to make it.  Creatine is for longer lasting excercise sessions which could help but high protein, amino acids intake is the best thing.  Soooo, more food, amino acids ( which make up proteins ) plus weight training will raise the bar for you.

You need carbs, and before an event you need to carb heavy a day or so prior.

Swimming is the best exercise, period. If you just want mass, eat lots and lift weights.

Creatine will help a shitload, I got that stuff and trust me, it works. Just don't shake the drink and drink it after 2 hours of a meal (or empty stomach). Pretty much make sure your stomach is empty before you drink it cause that stuff expands in your stomach.

Increases Strenght + Recovery

Eliminates fat and provides

Needs two - four weeks to take effect though so take it on in bulk (as much as you can take) and keep going with the protein shakes etc

I know u said no weights, but try tricep curls (with bout 5kg), but do it bout 500 times (this increases stamina and ability to lay down lots of hits etc

Steroids! Muscle mass = lift heavy weights (def need friends to watch/help) as for food its all personal, some things work for some people but not for others...eat a shitload and find out
