As can be seen in my picture, I'm having a problem with installing the update for my driver which, as the Directx Diagnostic Tool displays, is just a *bit* old.  When I downloaded the driver, I went to
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
And then since I have a Nvidia GeForce Go 6200 I selected "Graphics Driver" in part 1, then "GeForce and TNT2" in part 2, and finally "Windows XP/2000" as I run Windows XP Pro.  Using Firefox, it downloads without a hitch, but when I go to install it I get the message in the upper left of the image (I just put the DirectX Diagnostic Tool in there to show that I do indeed have a Nvidia driver installed) and so is my plot... anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong?

EDIT: If it helps, my system specs: (it's a sony laptop)
CPU: Intel Pentium M processor 1.73 GHz
RAM: 1022 MB
OS: Microsoft XP Pro w/ SP 2
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce Go 6200
--> Driver: running dxdiag gives me version 6.14 and date 2/17/05
--> Driver: right clicking Nvidia in device manager: V 7.0.8.3, date 2/17/05... apparently my computer is confused on the driver version...

You have to uninstall the old driver first :- Uninstalling the NVIDIA Display Driver Software
Note: It is highly recommended that you follow the steps in this section to completely
uninstall the NVIDIA Display Driver software before updating to a new version
of the software.
To uninstall the nView software, follow these steps:
1 From the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel to open the
Control Panel window.
2 Double‐click the Add/Remove Programs item.
3 Click the NVIDIA Display Driver item from the list.
4 Click Change/Remove.
5 Click Yes to continue.
A prompt appears asking whether you want to delete all of the saved nView
profiles.
• If you click Yes, all of the nView software and all of your saved profiles
will be deleted.
• If you click No, the nView software is removed, but the profile files are
saved in the Windows\nView directory on your hard disk.
Your system now restarts.
Then install the new driver :- Installing the NVIDIA ForceWare Graphics Drivers
1 Follow the instructions on the NVIDIA .com Web site driver download page
to locate the appropriate driver to download, based on your hardware and
operating system.
2 Click the driver download link.
The license agreement dialog box appears.
3 Click Accept if you accept the terms of the agreement, then either open the
file or save the file to your PC and open it later.
Opening the EXE file launches the NVIDIA InstallShield Wizard.
4 Follow the instructions in the NVIDIA InstallShield Wizard to complete the
installation.
Hope this helps

Nvidia's cards use the unified driver architecture, but sometimes they prevent drivers from working with some platforms, like GeForce Go graphics. To make them work you have to modify the inf file. I went through this not a week ago, and here's what I found:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/ind … topic=9243

Read that and follow the directions carefully, and you're golden.

Currently figuring this out/downloading/installing and will let you know if I succeed or fail.

Judging by this website, there is not a chance in hell I'd let someone work on my PC with a website as atrocious as that. All HTML/CSS *laughable*
