E6400 or E6600?

Which has a better benefit per cost?

If I get the 6400 I can get a third GB of RAM plus a 600W PSU (preparing for an 8800GTS W00t!)

But If I get an e6600, will the performance be noticably different than a 6400?

6400. BUt then again, I don't personally have either. But I hear the only difference is the 4mb cache.

the 6400 and 6600, when clocked to the SAME SPEED, the 6600 ONLY has a 7% increase in performance...

i got the 6300 extreme edition.. works perfect and runs between 30-40 degrees while in-game, you won't need anything more

6400 if you are on a really low budget and the 6600 if you have a larger budget. The 6400 is plenty good for a year or 2 and can bet overclocked pretty well like all core2 if you have proper cooling.

Why? Zalman isn't that sort of a big deal anymore. You're rather paying the brand than cooling efficiency (oh, quality may also be better than somewhere else, but really, it's not such a difference anymore...)

Go for the 6400. Higher FSB tolerances.

I run my 6300 at 2.8GHz, I have run it at 3.2GHz, but it got a bit hot and timings got a bit loose (keeping it stable anyway).

It's all about getting a low end C2D and overclocking the hell out of it. You can squeeze almost 200% performance out of the lower end C2Ds (on air - get a nice fan).

You don't need a 600W PSU for an 8800GTS. You'd be ok with a 400W, 500W to be on the safe side. 600W is overkill. It's not enough to run 2 8800GTSs in SLI though, so why bother. Get a 500 or 550W PSU, few more dollars for hookers and dentists.
