I responded to this guy the other day who made a comment about 'gassing jews' and it made me suddenly realise that there are prob loads of radical people playing this game.........thats fine as long as they keep their distorted opinions to themselves. So, I was wondering if someone uses any sort of racist thread or comment during the game shouldn't they just get banned either for a long enough time to teach them to shut up or for good?!

Don't normally get into this stuff but I am PISSED OFF.

i dont agree with what was said, but it does fall under freedom of speech in many countries.  although i dont condone racism pr prejudism of any sort, that person did pay the same money you did to play and therefore has as much right to use chat as you do.

Bloody hell mate you're not too keen on me are ya.

Freedom of speech is one thing but it shouldn't never be allowed to inspire hatred against a race of people especially not in a fucking game.

i'm just voicing my opinion.

i don't see a comment in passing about 'gassing jews' as being something to inspire hatred.  i definitely dont agree with any remark said about the subject, but im guessing it was probably intended as a joke, albeit a poor one.  had the person gone into detail about why jews should be gassed and then tried to convince others that it was ok, then thats where i would have a problem with it.

people make comments like this outside of games as well...does it make it ok?  no, of course not, but we're not about to start taking away their privilege to speak their minds are we?

i'm 20.  i never said there was nothing wrong with it, but i see no need to start banning accounts and censoring people over statements said in passing.  ironic the statement you're arguing about stems from nazi germany, where censorship was a way of life, and yet here you are trying to censor people in a video game.

it's distasteful and politically incorrect, yes.  for the third time, i do not agree with any statement like that.  all i'm saying is that freedom of speech is one of the best rights people have.  if we start censoring statements like that, then soon enough we'll start censoring anything related to the subject of the holocaust seeing as how it disturbs so many people.

if you want to joke about 9/11, be my guest.  i won't laugh, but i also won't say you cannot do it.

I'm 31.  You were 4 when the Berlin Wall fell for fucks sake. The point I'm trying to make is that I'm all for freedom of speech but not when it disrespects any race of people or inspires hatred which is normally what it ends up doing.  More to the point the kind of people that make jokes about the holocaust don't even think it happened I mean Jesus dude.  You get my point you're just into really long diatribes!!

Listen up dood, most countrys (as you put it) that have "freedom of speech" also have laws protecting the people from hate speech.

Again Freedom of speech does not cover/condone hate speech.

thats a pretty big assumption there, "the kind of people that make jokes about the holocaust dont even think it happened".  my guess was it is some immature kid who doesnt understand what actually happened during WW2 and was trying to get a quick laugh out of people.

again, and for the fourth time, i do not agree with, nor condone those kinds of jokes, however, they do fall under freedom of speech.  i'd much rather have to live with jokes like those than not be able to say anything at all.

i never said i didnt get your point, all i said was my opinion on the matter.  i would take a guess that since you posted this in a public forum, you were looking for other peoples opinions on the matter so i really dont think im too far off by stating mine.

no, it was not correct for that person to say what was said, but it is a right of his to do so.  i dont see why youre continuing to argue this point with me seeing as how i have to keep repeating the same thing.

also, what does the berlin wall have to do with the holocaust?  as i remember, the wall was built after WW2 ended to separate east and west berlin.  more specifically it was built around the time of the cold war to keep the soviets out of west berlin and therefore out of the french, british, and american parts of berlin.  so again, how is that related to the holocaust?

actually freedom of speech does cover hate speech.  this is why groups like the KKK (dont even associate me with them, im using them for examples sake only) are allowed to hold meetings and say what they wish.  the only time hate speech is not allowed is when it incites an action against a race, religious group, etc.

how do i have a chip on my shoulder when i'm arguing my point of view?  just because my opinion differs from yours doesnt mean you have to take offense to it, start saying i have a chip on my shoulder, or start calling me a dumbass.  last i checked, you werent alive for WW2 either, so arguing that i'm only 20 really has no relevence when the subject at hand dealt with the holocaust.  how was i patronizing you?  i certainly wasnt agreeing with you but i was also being respectful...not attacking you personally like you just did to me.

now, as far as the original post is concerned ( let's try to keep this on-topic ), there is no indication that EA can ban you for live for swearing on public servers, even if it's ethnic slurs. It may sound funny, but EA sells Video Games and only can sanction actions that contradict the EULA, for example cheating, stats-padding, illegal copying, etc..

I don't think political correctness is part of the EULA as of now.

Freedom of speech is a very delicate topic. As has been said, every country has its own laws about it. IMHO, The american version is a bit more "loose" ( sorry, I can't find a better word for it right now ), i.e. it will allow people to say things that would get them in jail here in germany, for example.

As ThomasMorgan has said, it's a video game and has no meaning in real life. Is it sad that this guy made those comments ? Absolutely. Were these comments wrong ? Yes. Do I support them ? No, absolutely not. Should he be banned from that server ? He should be. Would I ban him from these forums if I saw him making those comments here ? you bet...

But has he violated the EULA ? Not that I know of...

I am not going to elaborate on the Freedom of Speech issue. Remember, we are discussing BF2 here.
If you want to, I can move this thread to the community forums.

I dont agree with people making racial or hate inspired comments but it its in a server or website that I dont pay for then why should I care.

If its acceptable on whatever server or website your on and you cant handle it, leave.

Nope, fair point, I wasn't alive during WW11.

Politically incorrect mostly about people hurting other people but purporting to be exponents of peace. Pro lifers blowing up abortion clinics etc. Freedom of speech is a misnomer. More to the point when someone like Bill is trying to make a good point he gets cut from Letterman. So if you're a member of the KKK you can say what you want but if you're against pro lifers you can't.

BUT MORE TO THE POINT...............THERE IS NO PLACE FOR IT IN A GAME

You know game as in relaxation leisure that kind of thing.
