I recently began overclocking my PC (stats are at the bottom) and noticed that an annoying problem has cropped up. What happens is that at random times during the game, BF2 will minimize itself so i have to quickly alt-tab it back to focus. This is particularly annoying while flying since you will inevitably crash.
Obviously I can reduce the clock speed closer to stock (where i don't see this as a problem), but was wondering if there was something other than the processor doing this. I would expect that if the processor is too stressed that it would cause OS to blue screen or program to exception fault or something - not just minimize. kind of peculiar behavior - at least to me.
Anyone else face a similar issue?
I'm using a single monitor and have disabled my #2 monitor in the display settings. I'm not running xfire or other programs like that. I AM running Norton Antivirus but it's set up to not auto-update, etc (just protect in background). Also, BF2 is the only application i have running at the time. It's a fresh windows XP Pro install too. my framerates are in the 80-90 range most of the time which i'm ok with.
Here's my stats:
Intel 840D EE (currently @ 4GHz) - Kentsfield on the way...
EVGA i680 mobo
2 GB RAM (4 sticks of OCZ 667MHz)
500 GB Seagate SATA2 drive (no RAID yet)
dual BFG 7800 GT cards in SLI
DVD, etc
