Yesterday I got my Razer Copperhead...unpacked it, plugged it in and tried it out.

I fiddled around with the sofware config a bit, but I couldn't get it to store any of the settings.

After getting very frustrated, I took it back to the store and got the Logitech G5 instead, and let me tell you how impressed I was.

If there's anyone who is tossing up between getting the two, here's a list of differences/pros/cons to help you decide which mouse suits you best.

Razer Copperhead aka (CH)
Logitech G5 aka (G5)

CH - Thin and Curves IN would suit someone who only holds the mouse with their thumb and pinky.
G5 - Fatter and curves OUT, perfectly shaped for thumb and pinky, yet properly supports your palm

CH - Software a bit flaky, I assume for the people it works for, the extra macro features, and the 32kb of onboard memory to store configurations to take to other pc's would be handy. A pain to update firmware on the mouse.
G5 - Software incredibly easy to install and use, easy to update firmware, you can have a different profile for different games, RPS (reports per second) can be adjusted,

CH - Has on the fly sensitivity that appears on screen as you adjust it, can be set up to use the scroll wheel + side button in config as well.
G5 - On the fly sensitivity indicator on the mouse itself, configured by default.

CH - Scroll wheel is nice, button easy to press.
G5 - Has side scrolling as well (tilt to left to scroll left etc) can be tricky to press middle button, sometimes easy to scroll left by mistake.

CH - Gold plated connector, tangle free plastic cord.
G5 - Nylon wound tangle free cord, EMI reducer (cylinder thing near the plug).

CH - Teflon feet (comes with spares), smooth to move.
G5 - Larger teflon feet, feels smoother

CH - Aftermarket weight adjustment kit only (voids warranty)
G5 - Customisable weight cartridge

CH - Bright (in my case blue) lights, pulsating one in the middle, gets quite annoying.
G5 - Only orange Sensitivity indicator LED, not overly bright, blends in with the rest of the mouse.

CH + G5 - All technical specs the same (ie, DPI, polling rate etc)

So basically, in most cases the G5 is better

IMO it looks better too, feels more like a 'pro gaming mouse', copperhead looks more like a toy.

Copperhead is the win. It simply whops ass. And the middle light is not a tad annoying, how can you be bothered by it when your hand palm is covering it? Who needs weight cartridges and side scroll wheels? Razer Copperhead is just pure gaming experience and I always kick ass when using it.

Yeah, but my increase sensitivity button got a bit finicky after 3-4 months.

You forgot: the G5 can only have three DPI sensitivity settings that you can change in game, while the copperhead has four. On top of that, the copperhead has the on-the-fly thing.

When I was buying my mouse and deciding between the two, it came down to looks and shape. I tried out my friend's G5, and I found the "whole hand support" thing really uncomfortable. And unlike you, I found the shiny (in my case) green lights sooooooooooooooo awesome.......

I suppose it just comes down to personal taste. I'm not sure what problem you had with your copperhead, but mine works just fine.......

G5 is a cheap mans gaming mouse

it lacks the functions of what a copperhead has

1Hz Ultra Polling

Firmware up dates

and the fact is Copperhead owns.

G5 is a POS.

but its all personal preferance really

but Copperhead just by facts is the better mouse.

You could always compromise and use the Razer exact mat. I have actually come to prefer it over my Ratpadz.

Agree

CH - Software a bit flaky, I assume for the people it works for, the extra macro features, and the 32kb of onboard memory to store configurations to take to other pc's would be handy. A pain to update firmware on the mouse.
G5 - Software incredibly easy to install and use, easy to update firmware, you can have a different profile for different games, RPS (reports per second) can be adjusted,

Logitech software is horrendous, I don't know of anyone who a) likes it or b) uses it.

CH - Has on the fly sensitivity that appears on screen as you adjust it, can be set up to use the scroll wheel + side button in config as well.
G5 - On the fly sensitivity indicator on the mouse itself, configured by default.

Copperhead has on the fly sensitivity AND on the fly DPI adjustment, afaik, the G5 only does on the fly sensitivity

CH - Scroll wheel is nice, button easy to press.
G5 - Has side scrolling as well (tilt to left to scroll left etc) can be tricky to press middle button, sometimes easy to scroll left by mistake.

Pretty much agree, never liked that tilting scroll wheel idea. I'd rather keep the 4 side buttons than lose 3  buttons and have an awkward, slightly bodged replacement in the form of a wobbly scroll wheel.

CH - Gold plated connector, tangle free plastic cord.
G5 - Nylon wound tangle free cord, EMI reducer (cylinder thing near the plug).

It's a cable what can you say, gold is shiney lol.

CH - Teflon feet (comes with spares), smooth to move.
G5 - Larger teflon feet, feels smoother

Larger feet = more grip, can't see the logic in going for low frction gliders then making them big so it increases friction.

CH - Aftermarket weight adjustment kit only (voids warranty)
G5 - Customisable weight cartridge

Doesn't void the warranty at all, but then again weight adjustment is pretty superfluous anyway

CH - Bright (in my case blue) lights, pulsating one in the middle, gets quite annoying.
G5 - Only orange Sensitivity indicator LED, not overly bright, blends in with the rest of the mouse.

It's inder your hand, how is it annoying?

CH + G5 - All technical specs the same (ie, DPI, polling rate etc)

Love my G5.  Batteries running out in the middle of a game infuriated me and the nylon cord is really nice.

I have an G5 myself and I absolutly love it! feels great when using it(perfect fir for my hand).
my config:

2000 dpi - jets
1300 dpi - choppers/tanks
1200 dpi - For more accurate tanks shots
1000 dpi - infantry whoring
800   dpi - for the sniper rifle.

I also love  the "on the fly" sensitivity indicator on the mouse itself, you can easily see what sensitivity you are running.
