We all know the stigma that is associated w/ excessive gaming.  After all, you can PWN at games, but PHAIL at life.  However, there HAS to be SOME good associated with gaming right?

So now I pose the question.....how does playing BF2 make you better in other aspects of real life?  For instance, it relieves stress which makes you a better husband, father, friend, etc.  Just as an example to get you thinking about how this game improves other aspects of your life.

Myself?  The better I get at BF2, the better I am at my dentistry and vice versa.  The more I hone my fine motor skills in game, the more I feel like my handpiece/drill is an extention of me.  There are few professions that work with more minute detail than dentists (even brain surgeons).  In dentistry, the difference between .25 mm and .5 mm can mean disaster (ie, OMG...I just drilled into the pulp chamber....now this $100 filling is a $3600 root canal and crown).  How many people regularly live their lives in fractions of millimeters?  That's why a lot of dentists and dental students use "dental loops"......basically, these are magnifying glasses attached to your face so that you can see everything bigger than it really is.  I don't use them.  I figure they will only make me dependent, so I do the most minute of dental work with unaided vision.  I find that the fine motor skill that is required to overcome GOOD players in game requires attention to very minute details, much like dentistry.  The better I get at this game, the easier I can do a good crown prep, anterior incisal fracture composite restoration, Class III amalgam, etc.

So, my little BattleFieldmice.......tell me how BF2 has made you better in your own lives.

It gave me fast enough reactions to stop hockey goalkeeping from being an extremely painful experience. (I played school hockey with a hollow puck and plastic sticks, but it still hurt like hell whenever it hit me. I eventually became good enough to use the stick to stop them. [I never had a real goalie stick])

omfg, I can't see any connection at all. Probably it makes me MORE angry when I have bad luck in-game...

Agreed, BF2 just makes me angry. My fist currently hurts from punching my computer desk after a cissy temper-tantrum 3 weeks ago!

But I have found BF2 and other games in general help to hone the following skills:
Spacial Awareness - E.g. knowing your tank's turning circle, or how far around an object you must drive/fly to ensure u don't catch it.
Problem Solving - There is a tank guarding the way to the next CP. Do I a) take it on, b) go around it, c)wait for it to move
Map Reading - Orientation of the HUD map, and working out which way you need to go to get to your net way point
Team Work - Working as a squad and utilising all your skills can be translated into so many aspects of life an business
Weaponry Knowledge - You know you point out an L85A1 or M1A2 when you see one on television now
Organisaiton - BF2 demonstrates the use of a chain of command, so that the commander does not have to issue commands to individual soldiers. The benifits of this are clearly shown in BF2.

I have to go to work now. I may finish this list off later...

It relieves work stress at the end of the day & I don't have to actually kill people.
It keeps me home so I get stuff done around the house more than I would normally.

helped me when i was driving, was used to looking up at the map, and at bullets, then scoreboard and back to the game. Was more comfortable checking speed/mirrors/ the road.

BF2 is good for my health because It makes me move a bit. If I had no BF2 I would have only TV remote control in my hand all day.. And that's not good sport, isn't it?

As I'm studying physics, BF2 has taught me that if you shoot someone with a pistol, they will fly away at mach 3.

It helps me cool down after a stressful night of work.

It helps my profession by reminding me I'm part of a TEAM, even if my co-workers are 100 miles away and the only way we communicate is through radios & CCTV.

It works as a social outlet.  Working the midnight shift can cause havoc with your social life.  When I get home I always have at least 1 or two "mates" on TS.

It helped me through a depressing time in my life (which is still ongoing), where I can just sit down and play the game, shut out everything in my life and not have to think about someone who cant come back.

Yea, it kinda made me a bit more aware, but since I get bored real easy, I tend to do Karkand, as its fast gameplay.... instead of that FuShe Pass BS or w/e. If anything, its made me more impatient. Ive been through 3 mice since starting BF2, and only because of it.

Relieves stress, increases reflexes, taught me to use the minimap in css. That's all I can think of right now.

Faster reaction times, split-second decision making, and an excellent eye to pick out guys on the ground from chopper piloting.
