If you want a refund at GAME you have to present them the faulty/unwanted video game. UNOPENED (in original shrink wrap or a GAME employee will sticker it all up), and they will refund you no-hassale.

.....however, if you present them a video game that has been opened that has a major error or doesn't work at all, they will only be able to give you an exchange and not let you get your money back no matter how much you argue.

now i swear that thats illegal, doesn't the sale of goods act mean that its illegal to sell faulty goods, and if a shop sells you a faulty good, they must refund you no matter what.

your thoughts?

mind telling us what GAME is? is it a store or something?

from my understanding here in the states is there are some laws that forbid refunding if you return the game opened. copyright shit, you can only exchange it.

Legally you can't demand your money back. You have a contract. They have give you a working game, you have give them money. If the game doesn't work, they will give you a replacement. Simple as that.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Here in the UK, it is my understanding that, yes, this is illegal. We have very good consumer protection laws in the UK. Just about every major retailer flouts them on a regular basis. But they also all know them well and, if you show that you also know the law just as well as them (or just threaten them with Trading Standards), they will capitulate.

if it was international i would have heard of it. yea, i bet this is part of some international copyright law and as i said earlier you can only exchange the game for another copy of the same game. sucks i know but blame it on those assholes in asia who bootleg it.

Oooh ooh *puts hand up* me me.

I've just covered this part of the law If they refuse to give you a refund ask for the manager if you kick up enough of a fuss and have the receipt he/she should issue you with a refund just for sake of argument.

If they still don't want to refund you make it known to them that under the Sales of Goods the game is not
Fit for purpose. If you have to take it over the store, as they are a large chain they will have a customer services office, send a letter explaining all of this, make sure you send it recorded delivery, they will have to refund you and if you sound upset enough they might throw in some vouchers or something.

It shouldn't have to go any further than the manager on duty though in 95% of situations. Even if it is resolved instore you still might want to try your luck with customer services. If you don't ask you don't get.

Edit: Also: Under the Sale of Goods Act the consumer is entitled to reject the goods and have a refund if you don't want the item repaired.

Hope this helps and you get it sorted.

Yep, as I said - we have very good consumer protection laws in the UK. It's just a shame more people don't know their rights.

Guys, just an FYI, but a lot of places here in the States have the same rule when exchanging titles, they will only exchange a game/movie for the same title, it's to prevent someone from "renting" games, by paying for one and then returning it every 30 days or so for a different game.  Also, it's to prevent bootlegging as mentioned earlier in this post.

If you open the game and it is faulty, you can't get a refund, period.
