When in command of a team with your infantry struggling to get flags, but who are annihilated by enemy armor closely defending flags, what do you do when (example):
A. your one-and-only Tanker is camping on a hill overlooking the Karkland meatgrinder, but NOT attacking or destroying enemy armor , as means to inflate his SPM or K ratio, but not really helping the team
B1. the APC does the same -  no engeneer in it -
B2. the APC stands empty at your spawn

In this case, your team is bleeding tickets, and the enemy is getting in the lead.

What do you do ? Tell me about it

I occasionally have the opposite problem. I'll occasionally run into a clueless commander that can't see what I'm trying to do. For instance, if I'm playing US in Kubra Dam, and I manage to TAKE the Intake, as far as I'm concerned, there's NOTHING more important than HOLDING it. This means, unless there's tons of my side staying there, I'm sitting back defending it. In Kubra Dam, keeping hold of the Intake wins games.

But yes, I do know what you're talking about. Most notably, snipers that like to just sit around and groups that camp and wait for aircraft are the WORST things to have on your team.

Trying to outkill the enemy without taking any flags will usually lead to a loss.  You have to be really really dominant to have, for example, only one uncap flag, and defeat an enemy who has all the other flags, and all their CO resources and armour and cars and choppers etc.

To get the team to change, I'll try a combination of lecturing/hectoring combined with how I use the Commander assets.  Biggest barrier here is what I have always considered a weakness in the BF2 game, namely the lack of a useful "chat" area.  Our messages, even if we take the time to type them out, are displayed in the same portion of the screen as all other in-game messages, and can be quickly scolled off the screen by someone spamming "Yes sir yes sir" or "I need a medic here."

Anyway, try typing to the team and using VOIP to squad leaders.  Tell them they will lose if they do not take some flags.  And then use your Commander assets to support them.  Instead of constantly dropping UAV and supplies in the area where that useless tank is spawn-killing, show them the empty flags with UAV.  "Order" a squad to take a particular flag.

Joining the action and fighting, or taking the flags yourself, is as always your last resort.  Commanders should not fight, unless it is to defend a base, or if it is 16-size map.  However, if you fly into a rage and absolutely can't stand it anymore, and have to take a flag...take someone with you.  If you go alone, good enemy Commander will spot you and arty you before you cap the flag.

If the team refuses to listen, in the dying minutes of the round, get on the chat board again and remind them of why they lost.  Then try again in the next round.  If they still don't listen, and still stand around the meatgrinder of the first flag, you might as well find another server.  Either you are a bad Commander, or you just have a bad team that cannot be saved.  It happens.  Move on.

Oh, and I wouldn't use the 2nd option in the poll, dropping arty on your own troops.  Just because people do not understand how to win is no reason to TK them.

a leader ie commander should lead by example,  in other words get the fucking tank or apc and start to cap flags,  its a way to get your team moving who might other wise just say fuck it we cant win , thus you get no points as a  commander-   so take charge and lead on,  yes you may die a few times but im sure with the uav over where you are going you will take out a pisspot of them too

I usually will just move on to another server or the other team.  If they won't play because they are too busy sniping or whatever, time to get on a team that is ready to play as a team, instead of just kills and/or pts.

I try not to get into that problem. If my team is crap from the previous round I won't command them. It feels pointless commanding a crappy team - like I'm doing all the work with no reward.

I would from now on take a leaf from gene_pool's book and play annoying bollywood music down the commander channels and rebuke them constantly.
OR, I go and take a flag in IO such as suburb in Karkand as a sniper then hold it on my own with claymores and a supply crate.

I usually send squads that appear to be clan guys on the important jobs, since they tend to work together better.

If that doesn't work, I Fortify my position and await the inevitable base-rapetastic finale.

1. Tell the team to start getting flags
2. Give orders to a few squads
3. Start getting flags myself

Hmm, I do many of the options. When I command, I'm usually out helping the team anyway (stfu don't flame me, I actually wind up commanding and fighting better when I'm out there on the frontlines than if I were sitting in the back doing nothing). But when no one else makes any effort, I usually yell and cuss at them and tell them to get flags if they actually want to win. But if they're still whoring vehicles and keep getting killed or they're all waiting for a vehicle to spawn, or they're just guarding a flag that no one is attacking instead of getting more flags, I'll just disconnect in disgust. I can't have fun if my team is doing absolutely shitty. It feels like it's me vs. the 20 people on the other team, and I hate it when that happens.

Being the passive observer-type commander (Find a hole, sit in it, direct the battle from there), it would normally be along the lines of rebuke and type angrily at the squads until bored of it, and then go to trying to kill as many of the enemy as possible with the arty to up my KDR, before leaving the server before I lose.

On another note, which one of you idiots wrote the guide advising people to hunt down the enemy commander and stab him? That keeps happening to me lately.

, Yea, i forgot that one !   It happens; some teams ....

I use a lot of the options i mentioned, but not all in the same round of course.
The rampage - while being in command - is a cool way to let off the steam; some call it "leading by example", hehe. Much better than arty on your own troops indeed.

A small pop-up window for what is typed by the commander- just below  the minimap (upper right of screen- would be nice to give it more visibility; i.e. only 1 pop-up in 5 minutes to avoid spam.
Or just a display of the typed command text in orange ? (DICE , are you listening? lol)

I stay as commander but try and do what my useless team cant and i usually get a flag or two when i try. But i hardly ever play commander (yawn) so its not much of an issue for me.

Yes ! The SAS commander in SF can do that (commo-rose), it sounds like a barking dog: KOW-KOW-KOW
