I have a buddy who wants to get in on the BF2 action, but cant seem to cope with the keyboard mouse config.
Anyone have any useful experience with game pads or any other alternatives?

Mouse is just the best way, unless you have some kinda motion sensing super VR controller...

But game pads just wont work as well. Use K&M more, it will be better once he does learn.

If he can't use a keyboard/mouse, then he shouldn't be playing computer games...

I use a Nostromo speedpad.  It's still keyboard keys, but it's a lot fewer, and I find it easier to use than the full sized keyboard.

I can't think of a real way to aim without a mouse....not and have a chance in hell of actually returning fire before you're dead.  There's a reason console and PC versions of FPS games don't play online together.  You simply can't function as well with a gamepad.

What might work better is just practice practice practice.  We all had to learn, and I'm sure he can get better with time.  If you're working with someone that can't use a computer at all (no experience with mousing), it's probably not worth the effort for this game though.

Maybe a gamepad, that's all I could really think of.

I use a Z-merc gaming Keyboard & mouse.

I'm probably at least twice the age of my opponents so I need those Big Keys, LOL.

TimmmmmaaaaH,

They're welcome to put the two groups together online, but it'll be unbalanced as all get out.  Until there's a mainstream control scheme for consoles that can rival the K&M combo on the PC side anyway.  The only way I can think of to make this a non-issue would be for the control scheme to be so dumbed down that PC gamers probably wouldn't like it anyway.  With a choice between unbalanced play and a lousy PC-side control scheme, I think I'd just choose a different game.

I wasn't denying that K&M was better, just pointing out that there is a few upcoming games that will have both PC and 360 gamers on the same servers.

Should have been the end of the post after this reply.

You can't play online fps games without using a mouse, unless you are just die hard determined to suck, and want to attempt a gamepad. He's going to have to learn... a few days tops is all he's going to need to get the hang of it. Impatience kills me.

its real simple... just think of the cross hairs as you cursor, and the enemies head the file you want to open. Now move the cursor to the file and click. Hey presto the file had a virus and died.

Nostromo Speedpad n52. Best gaming device ever. There is no substitute for a mouse though.

Halo 2:
"As a Games for Windows-branded game, Halo 2 has full support for the Xbox 360 controller. While the game plays just fine with a mouse and keyboard, playing with a controller is a bit closer to the original console experience, right down to force-feedback support. This creates some really weird and potentially unbalanced trade-offs in multiplayer. By default, a player with a mouse will be able to turn more quickly and, if that player is skilled, more accurately than a gamepad user. Gamepad players can increase the right-stick sensitivity to turn faster, but they also get another benefit that feels downright dirty. Like the console version, the PC game employs a certain amount of auto-aim when you're using a gamepad. This makes sticking to other players for up-close shotgun blasts or melee attacks significantly easier with the gamepad, and there doesn't appear to be any way to disable it or even detect that another player is using a pad. After pumping up the gamepad's sensitivity, we found ourselves doing more damage when armed with a gamepad, which makes the two control schemes feel unbalanced, is sort of crazy when you consider how tournament-focused the current Halo 2 Xbox scene is these days."

If you want to use a gamepad, use the 360 controller.  It's very good.

But you'll get raped by K+M guys...

I heard there was something like that (autoaim) for Shadowrun.  We're still going to rape anyway.  PC gamers unite!
